the mod squad had the disc damper about 20-yrs ago, they claimed similar benfits but required you to put a centering ring on the disc. it used a strong adhesive that made removing the rings difficult without leaving a residue, which if left on the disc would stick to the disc clamp in your CDP and would get stuck in the transport. Certain CDPs wouldnt accept the damper 'sandwich' because of the extra thickness. it was a disaster and not worth pain for little to no gain.

I completely agree. Almost all of the front loader transports are too narrow to house both the CD and the matt and be prepared to hear some grinding sounds

What I was using at the time was an Oppo DV 980H strictly as a transport going into a very fine Xindak tube upsampling DAC.
