The summer months always has a paucity of good TV to watch. Last week we did a perusal of series on HBO and one made in 2016 caught our eye, The Night of starring John Turturro who plays a down and out lawyer who pleads out traffic and drug violations, making a quick buck off common thieves and criminals. Walking through the jail one night he sees a young Turkish American boy who, through a calamity of circumstances found himself in a murder scene where he was apprehended and charged with the murder. All I can say is this poor kid's entire life is changed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Once charged he is locked up in jail with some pretty serious thugs, the king pin who takes Naz in and puts him under his wing as he converts him to the "dark side"
Each episode (8 in all) are an hour in length with the last episode being 94 minutes
John Turturro is at his absolute best in this series especially in the final closing arguments of the trial.
There is some pretty nasty stuff that goes on in prison including Naz becoming a crack addict and an accomplice in murder
There are some violent scenes in the series.
We enjoyed it and watched all 8 in 3 evenings
Turturro at his best...Closing arguments
