Big news for Roy Orbison fans.

Here are 3 Stereo DSD Downloads (Crying, In Dreams and Sings Lonely and Blue) from his recordings on Monument Records at Acoustic Sounds. Mastered from the Original Analog Master Tapes by Bernie Grundman and Authored by Gus Skinas at the Super Audio Center. Not available on SACD.

Brian,

I am surprised that this was only made available in single DSD, the sweet spot is probably double DSD, but I am sure there are many would love to hear these albums in Quad DSD. I will mention it to Chad when I see him next month at Newport.

warm regards
Philip

The Sonoma system that Gus uses only does DSD64fs

Bruce

How right you are. nonetheless, I will mention to Chad that he's leaving money on the table. I know other mastering engineers that could give Chad DSD64, 128 & 256.

warm regards
Philip

Agreed. There is a lot of interest in Double and Quad DSD Downloads among listeners.

Web stores like Native DSD, Blue Coast and Opus 3/DSD File are offering more and more albums in Double and Quad DSD - and even Multichannel Double and Quad DSD.
And I see that the Top 4 sellers at Native DSD today are all available in Double DSD Stereo and the Top 3 are also available in DSD 256 Stereo and Multichannel. The interest and sales are there.

Chad is in a different situation in that he is licensing albums from the major record labels vs. working with the independent labels (like Native DSD) or doing his own recordings (like Blue Coast and Opus 3).
So it may take him longer to get Double and Quad Rate DSD from the majors while the independents can move faster in those new markets.

Acoustic Sounds does have a Double DSD Stereo Download of Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens on their site transferred from Analog Tape by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound.
I wonder how that is doing sales wise vs. the original DSD Stereo 64fs Download of that album.

That might shed some insight as to why more Double DSD Stereo titles may or may not be coming from Acoustic Sounds.

Hi Philip,

Chad has a bigger problem with Customer Support, which is totally lacking.

They don't know how to allow one to download a single Track which froze when all the tracks have already been moved, and the (JRiver) downloader downloads everything off the album again.

Secondly, the first CS employee didn't provide all the details furnished to the second employee, etc..., etc... So if you can say a word about that too. :D

The catalogue is still paltry when it comes to non-Blues, non-Jazz for Canadians. Not sure Chad can do anything about the rights issue from country to country though. For instance, a couple of great David Bowie albums on the US store aren't available on the Canadian one.
