Your welcome . Sorry , nothing on the DAC as of now . Do not think DSD is in the scheme of things , purely speculating here .

Dietmar once told me that going DXD would require a complete DAC clocking system redesign, which was a challenge.

none the less even with 'just' the power supply and control system updates it's a nice step up for Trinity dac owners who already have world class digital.

OTOH these limitations are why I moved on (and 7+ terabytes....and growing....of dsd on my server), it certainly was not any lack of performance or build quality. but for much of the market dxd and dsd are not really even a part of things. so for his market it's appropriate.

but the details are not yet out, so there could be changes to these issues.

A sad news : there has been a big price increase recently.

Audioexotics in Hong Kong may still have some new old stock at the orginal prices, I guess.

I have talked with Dietmar many times. The case has always been the most expensive part of the DAC and a source of endless headaches.

I'm happy he intoduced a cheaper line in a more basic cases. The electronics inside those boxes is top flight and measures extremely well to boot - I'm sure Amir from Audio Science Review would climax after measuring one of the Dietmar's creations.

I’m sure finding 32 Burr Brown PCM 1704 dac chips is the biggest headache. Last time i needed one it took some serious hunting, and that was years ago. 4A6AED02-ED92-4401-A3F3-BE7CAE1A3364.jpeg

This line is an improved Reference Line with a new enclosure, which is twice as heavy compared to the Ref line. 35kg each enclosure.
8 Layer PCBs, new power supply unit, new control electronic based on the circuits used in the Golden Reference and so on.
The DAC will play 384kHz PCM data streams and has a modified gain stage of the Golden Reference Edition for the current to voltage converter. Top and bottom part upside down no front 1.jpeg

Silver Ref DAC almost ready, silk screening remains to be done. The performance of the IV converter, showing 20201002_221108.jpg the 50Hz spur comes from the fact that the PCB was measured on the bench near the bench top power supply and not inside of a shielded enclosure. 20201002_221643.jpg 20201002_222017.jpg

Thanks Jazzhead for the info and photos.

Genuine & good PCM1704 is now very expensive and rare.

How can Dietmer select/match the 16 of them in the dac, which was done previously and was one of the reasons why the original Trinity DAC was so good sonically?

Hey Jazzhead,

As you look at the Trinity DACs which have an excellent reputation...I was just reading some of the comments of the Wadax and was curious whether you had any views on it?

Also, have you heard anything about Zanden's new digital...the one which will match the Chukoh, Jinpu and Kaun?
