1. You can buy light dimming led stickers on Amazon for $5 for 100 variations. I use silver ones on my Atma-sphere class D’s and other electronics because they are in my living room.
2. I moved from a Line Magnetic 805ia SET amp to the Atma-sphere class D’s and don’t miss it whatsoever. I leave...
Yes 805ia. I found that tube rolling progressively resulted in the amp sounding less and less 'tube-like', all in a good way. Getting the Atma-sphere class D's just took this process to it's ultimate conclusion ... :) I had even thought I might need to keep a tube pre-amp in the chain to...
While they don’t necessarily sound like a tube amp, I replaced a Line Magnetic SET with these about 3 weeks ago and do not miss the tube amp whatsoever.
The Atma-spheres do a 3D image better than my LM, and the space/clarity/depth around instruments is outstanding. One of my favorite things...
@shakti good point re B4 label still saying ECC82.
I guess I was thrown by this comment by Lampi, suggesting maybe more than just shipping with different tubes, eg. a change to the operating points inside the analog section: Another big change is in the analog section where big and bold 12BH7...
Thanks, so you are saying they are the same I think. But the B3 with engine 11 still took 12AU7/ECC82 but the B4 takes 12BH7 right? They have different plate currents and operating points afaik.
Ah, very nice!
One thing I am still confused on regarding the B3 -> B4 transition. There were a number of folks who got B3's with the engine eleven board. Do those also have all of the other B4 upgrades, but with just a B3 label? Or are they still missing some other running changes that got...
Hi, how did you upgrade from B3 -> B4? I thought Lampi NA had stopped doing upgrades/trade-ins?? I would love to upgrade my B3 to a B4, not just because of the DAC/engine improvements, but the resistor-ladder VC, so I could remove my preamp from my chain.
Interesting. So is this the JL Sounds USB card you are using in your DAC's ??? http://jlsounds.com/i2soverusb.html . I do see it mentions Galvanic isolation and the option for dual/separate power supplies. Wasn't aware of that.
Yes they are. I also bought a pair of ACME 805's and a pair of ACME 300B's from them. One of the 805's arrived with a broken internal filament even though well packed. The dealer got Psvane factory to replace with a new pair that has been functioning fine - and sounds great. I do wonder if...
$1325 + tax + shipping for a pair of Acme 300b’s? That $1500 to my state. I bought a pair of ACME 300b’s AND a pair of ACME 805’s from Hifi-amplifiers for same price all in. Nice to have the US distributor but hard to justify!
Thanks and yes I would agree. If the tubes actually had different tuning and sonic qualities it seems much more likely that they would have slightly different model numbers, not just different labels.
So this is the initial response I got from Rachel:
We don't have factory level details of how they differentiate products for different markets.
However, from our past decade of experience in dealing with vacuum tubes, we have seen many tube models visually the same, but sonically quite...
Yeah the linlai store on Aliexpress may be official or it may not be - hard to tell with that platform. Same with Psvane - there are 10 variations on psvanetubes.com that all pretend to be authorized/legit. Any linlai tubes you buy from a chinese shop will have the chinese labels. The Linlai...
One other question for you - are your tubes labelled Linlai Global or do they have a Chinese label?
Linlai seems to be stating that they are screening/tuning tubes for the asian market vs western. From a 6moons review: "In short, Linlai aim at serving Western music and its usual instruments...
Thanks for the follow-up. From my 30 + hrs with the Linlai's I agree with most everything you say except for the sound being "full". Maybe I didn't give them enough time or maybe I am just used to my stock Psvane AT's likely being 'thicker'. But then again, I think I prefer copper to silver...
@JSA Wondering what your opinion is of the Linlai 805A-DG's is now that you have had them for a number of days. I tried a pair and unfortunately had to sell them. While the top-end was very nice and grain free, I simply found them far too lean. This seems to be in line with all reviews of LinLai...
Yep there is certainly much value in the data she is posting. Maybe I should have been a little more circumspect in my statement but I still think one should be cautious to jump to conclusions about Linlai vs Psvane QC based only on her posts.
I tried to read most of it but it is a really unfocused and poorly worded review (author not native English speaker?). We need more real world reviews on the Linlai tubes. I would take everything Rachel/Grant fidelity says with a grain of salt given business relationships/issues.
