As it is about “digital” cables, try measuring the eye-pattern. If I remember correctly HiFi-news did so a couple of years ago and found differences between cables.

Review: Pono Music Store (bargain shoppers rejoice)

The player is JRiver indeed. What intrigues me is that the JRiver bussines model is buy once at 50,- and upgrade each year at $25. As each and every one can download the Ponoplayer for free, this is a big hole in the JRiver business model. Unless of course the Ponoplayer expires but than what is...

    Organizing your music collection

I wonder if you need a separate tool. A lot of media players can read single file + cue sheet. They also can convert If I have a FLAC + cue I tell my media player to convert it to FLAC and it will create a separate file for each track.

    Organizing your music collection

Some media players indeed return tracks when searching for a composer. Useless indeed. If the media player returns Albums or Compositions, the results are usable Most of the time a search for a composer will do in my case. If I have a lot of compositions (entire Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert)...

    Organizing your music collection

Say one has (happened to me using FreeDB): Sonate für Klavier und Violine F-dur Opus 24 [Frühling] Sonata No. 5 "Frühlings - Sonate" The Violin Sonata No. 5 in F major “Spring”, Op. 24 As these are the same compositions: Does Roon know this to be the case? If so can it unify e.g...

    Organizing your music collection

The first part is not correct, technically. IDV3 is the standard used in MP3. FLAC uses OGG/Vorbis comments, etc. Each audio format simply has its own standard. The second part is more important, allows the media player you to control what is stored inside the header of the audio file. I have...

    Organizing your music collection

The parodox of WAV is that support for the audio part is almost universal and support for its tags a universal mess. Tagging support is so poor a lot of people even belief you can't tag WAV at all. Better stick to FLAC. http://www.thewelltemperedcomputer.com/KB/WAV_KB.htm In the past I...

Why are there so few DACs with Ethernet inputs?

Couldn't find any info on the Ethernet connection of the Mola but Weiss and MSB offers UPnP modules, not a low latency direct connection AES67 style. Basically a computer turning your DAC into a UPnP renderer.

Why are there so few DACs with Ethernet inputs?

These boards exist for years like http://www.streamunlimited.com/ A lot of streamers are powered by their platform. As most audio companies are small and don't have much (if any) computer expertise they better buy a of the shelve product.

Why are there so few DACs with Ethernet inputs?

As others pointed out, the networked DAC is simply a tiny computer with a sound card. All streamers are networked computers by design. They have become popular because there is a standard (UPnP/DLNA) allowing products from different manufacturers to communicate with each other (UPnP=Universal...
