They are. You’ve seen my system before, I believe. I just now changed my avatar.

I thought the Von Schweikert 55’s were absolutely wonderful. I spent a long time in that room. The guys were very accommodating as far as musical selections and product queries. The short tutorial on how they dialed in the room was fascinating.

Calling on OWNERS of Upgraded Apogees & Sanders 10e Electrostatics

I would ride out your Divas until they don’t sound good anymore. Those Scintillas I have are old and ragged out, yet they still sound great (if you can ignore the occasional buzz). I enjoy trying new things (tubes vs solid state, different speaker wire, vibration dampening, etc). However, I’m...

Calling on OWNERS of Upgraded Apogees & Sanders 10e Electrostatics

I try to be level headed about system changes. I give it a week or two before I pass judgement and let the newness wear off. I’m amazed at how many people claim their latest purchase is leaps and bounds better than what they replaced, only to decide to sell that item shortly thereafter. If I...

Calling on OWNERS of Upgraded Apogees & Sanders 10e Electrostatics

I never heard Duettas before, so I can’t say how they compare. However, they are very stiff and I would say the build quality is probably much better than the originals. The reconditioned Scintillas which were 1 ohm, did not sound much different than the old 4 ohm pair I have. That surprised me.

Calling on OWNERS of Upgraded Apogees & Sanders 10e Electrostatics

That ended up being a bit of a sage. I received the Scintillas and noticed a slight resonance in the bass panels. Rich theorized that something (clamp?) may have shifted during transit. He paid to have them returned to him. When they arrived in Nevada, the shipper essentially destroyed the...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I’m still breaking in my TSW Duetta Ultimates, but my impression so far is WOW . I can see why so many audiophiles have a memorable Apogee experience to convey. These speakers are shocking in their authority and presence. They fill in the frequency gaps left vacant by the Stages. They seem to...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I don’t recall what he said. He did tell me, but I forgot. The system could play very loud and very clear. So many tweaks in that system I couldn’t keep track.

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

The Duettas are completely redone and are actually Duetta Ultimates. They have completely new passive crossover components and stronger magnets, which should make it marginally more efficient. Of course, “efficient” is a relative word with Apogees.

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I’m in Virginia. I also have old Scintillas and had reworked Scintillas from TSW. I have a good supply of solid state amps. I’ve always been fascinated by the NAT Single HPS and the Line Magnetic with the 805 tubes. I read that the Line Magnetic 150iA is very good with Duettas. Did someone on...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I’m wondering if the fact that they are Duetta Ultimate rebuilds would impact their efficiency? Has anyone compared the efficiency of original Signatures to the newer rebuilds? Perhaps I’m grasping at straws here….

So am I to assume that you believe I would not like the sound? Too stressed?

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I know this may be a strange question, but has anyone tried an SET amp with 805 tubes putting out around 50 watts into a Duetta? Would that drive it?

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

The presentation was definitely not as “in your face” as with Apogees, but it was definitely a good smooth sound. I attribute a lot of the smoothness to the Magneplanar tweeter. The most impressive thing to me were the GR subs. They don’t load the room like a traditional subwoofer. They are...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

On another note, I was in Atlanta and went to visit Mike Powell (OCD Hifi Guy on YouTube). He is known to have a pretty amazing system. His main speakers are the big Analysis with a Magneplanar ribbon tweeter outboard and GR Research open baffle servo subs. He had them tri amped with Rowland...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I’m not really convinced they are. In fact, in some ways I prefer my Stages to the Scintillas. I’m hoping the Duettas are essentially a larger more impactful version of the “Stage sound”. I would say the Scintillas are lovely, but can be a bit “phasy sounding” at times. Obviously due to the MRT...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

It’s all good. I had to decide if I wanted TSW to make me new Duettas or buy Rich’s full ranges. I chose Duettas because I feel they would be less work trying to match up with different choices in amplification. Plus, I always hear stories of how amazing the bass is on the full range, or the...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I received my TSW Scintillas a few months ago. Unfortunately, they arrived with a slight resonance at about 250hz that was only detectable on certain songs and a howling that was prominent on other passages. Rich felt the panels were damaged in transit. Scintillas are known for not traveling...

Calling on OWNERS of Upgraded Apogees & Sanders 10e Electrostatics

I love what I’ve heard from the Sanders/Magtech combo. I came very close to getting a pair, actually. Same with Soundlabs. I almost bought some Majestic 945’s a few years ago that came up for sale near me very cheap. In the end, every speaker is a compromise of some sort. We just have to decide...

Right now I’m using (believe it or not) a pair of monoblocked Acoustat TNT-200’s rebuilt by Roy Esposito. I have an H2O Signature 250 also, but the Acoustat amps sound much better. I have Mark Levinson ML-9’s coming to try with the new Scintillas from TSW. I came close to springing for Rowland...

I have 2+2’s, 1+1’s, and Spectra 66’s. The Spectra’s are phenomenal. I won’t part with them. In fact, I switch between them and the Apogees occasionally for a change of pace.

Calling on OWNERS of Upgraded Apogees & Sanders 10e Electrostatics

I know I’m late to the party, but I own some original Scintillas and Mini Grands. I’ve heard the Sanders 10e’s at a couple shows. They are perhaps my favorite “contemporary” speaker. I’ve always been a panel guy and they sound divine. I think for certain types of music they would be impossible...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

Did the Apogees Jason set up have Symo cable? I have found this to make the biggest difference next to experimentation with slight toe in. They are tricky to set up, but my Scintillas are very well balanced in my room. Not bass heavy at all. However, it is a long room and I’m essentially getting...
