After listening for a couple more days, I would ow favor the 6n6p tubes over the 6h30. I find overall noise floor to be lowered.... now having an alternative to compare, I find the 6H30 to be less refined and sounding a tad harsh. Sibilance tends to be emphasized. 6n6p tubes may be a little...
I managed to swap out all the 6H30 tubes with 6n6p tubes in my ref 6. Initial impressions was that the presentation was overall more musical. Vocals were more controlled and not as hurried if that is a way to put it. It is as if the singing were given a more controlled and meaty articulation...
I have made a comparison, GG balanced direct into my Dan Agostino Stereo amp vs a GG balanced into ARC Ref6 and Ref 5SE before my amp. I very much prefer to have a preamp in the chain. When I next send in my GG for any upgrade, I would remove the volume option.
I auditioned this with a view to buy. It did not work on my system.... Sucked the life out of music. It is quiet but everything gets muzzled a tad to the point cymbals or highs lose their sparkle.
I have my Dan D'agostino stereo amp plugged into a Torus AVR16 to good effect. Prior, I connected it into the Shunyata Triton / Typhon and there were no issues of slowness of lack of air.
I have been following this thread with interest. Lukaz did build a custom tube shield for me and that did help reduce some noise. It was however not a faraday cage. Following the reports on thos thread, i started exploring and someone pointed me to this solution...
Is there any benefit grounding both left and right imput or output vs grounding only one side in a particular component? I currently only ground one imput per component but have always wondered if grounding both may yield sonic benefits.
I have my speakers on symposium ultra platforms and they work very well. I am also keen to try active platforms beneath the speakers. The stacore and new taiko platforms are also being considered. My only reservations about the stacore was that spirit shared a observation that the soundstage...
But if there is a plastic insulator ring and the RCA jack, then all bets are off. We don't know what long path the wire and maybe resistor may follow inside the box. Your grounding wire could make a nice interference antenna.
What is meant by the above?
I am using herbies on my tube preamp and lampi. The arc preamp has its own tube damper rings but I found the herbies better with more air around instruments. Herbies provide arguably some of the best compromises. My view of dampers is that you achieve a more solid presentation at expense of air.
I have not disconnected for few seconds but when I disconnect it to do maintenance and cleaning, the entreq effect does diminish. Typically such maintenance sessions last at least an hour. I have ordered some ASI grounding cables to try. Someone with entreq grounding experimented with the ASI to...
Interesting and thank you for sharing. I did not discern much of a difference between grounding input rca vs output rca. I think they are quite close but as with entreq grounding it takes about 2 days after connection to hear it's full impact and maybe that's why it's difficult to do a AB...
My initial issue relates to gain too. My preamp was high gain and as such I could hear it loud when the preamp volume was set low. Cranking the tube also results in some background tube noise. The tubes act as antenaes and pick up rf from the surroundings. I sent this back to the factory for the...
Like yourself, I have been following this thread with keen interest and an open mind. The reason is that I feel that active platforms perform best under 200hz and there is little data on its isolation above 200hz. I do subscribe to the concept of broadband isolation and as such wonder about the...
I have connected my dagostino momentum amp's negative terminal to the tellus 2. I have grounded all my components into 2 tellus 2 boxes and thought that the separation of each component lowered noise floor and brought about a greater sense of ease compared to sharing terminals via a tellus in a...
Hi all, my speakers were placed by my dealer. Due to space concerns i have them 1.5 feet from the side walls. My question is if I need to treat the adjacent side walls, May be place bass panels there? Appreciate opinions and if bass may be impact with such placement.
I have some RFI interference from surrounding fluorescent light at times - may I know if the Entreq receivus may be effective is shielding my equipment - anyone has thoughts to share?
