I'm so excited by this product. I had the Horizon here at my home for a good few weeks (I can't remotely afford one but the UK distributor needed his demo unit delivering to someone and collecting whilst he was away so I ended up doing the favour and enjoying it's company). I was smitten by the...
Well, you just made the exact same point I was making in my post. The initial price point is high but it's off set by future resale values. I did make that point in my post but it still doesn't mean that the initial price point isn't very high for mainstream brands relative to other options.
I should have said I lost my job in October 2022 and went back to work March this year so it's all good, but I appreciate your expression of care. Good luck and have fun exploring with Greg.
I lost my job last October and am a single parent with a mortgage. I had some cover financially but nothing like enough to last me more than a month or two and I knew it was likely to take up to six months to find a new job so I had to raise cash or risk losing my house and my kids being being...
I came very close to buying a Meishu Tonmeister, as far even as paying the money to the dealer for the whole system. I think at the time the new retail price was £10k (this was only back in 2020!), but even then, when I heard what else my budget would buy if you stepped away from the path of...
Yes, as I indicated above, the new power supply, which replaced my three year old one, is a great improvement, generally across the spectrum, but very specifically the bass response was where the biggest gains were made.
You mean you have a 5u4g rectifyer in your Silvercore? I'm guessing that's what you mean. The KR Audio one is supposed to be excellent but I have found somewhere with a big stash of NOS 5u5g rectifyers that aren't that expensive so may well give one a go.
Posting some pictures of the Silvercore 833MKIIs in the context of the room and system. The hORNS FP15s are a recent addition, moving up from the FP10s I got three years ago from Lukasz Domanski of Lukasz Audio Labs (LDMS). They were a huge jump and quite a different speaker to the FP10s which...
I couldn't comment on the technical aspects but all the reviews of these amps are unanimous in their praise. I have heard a ZOTL licensed pre-amp made by Linear Tube Audio and was very impressed by it.
There will always be a 'but' - no design can do everything to please everyone. But I'd be interested in hearing any amplifier that can reproduce SS bass tautness and SET transparency and sweetness. A good friend of mine (HeiHei) used to have a set of David Berning Quadrature Z that I suspect did...
Posted this in repsonse to a question from Moricab back in Jan and Bonzo just asked me to post it here, so here it is.
I've been living with, and loving, a pair of Silvercore 833MKII monoblocs for the last three years.
Compared to other low powered SET designs, the Silvercores have a lot of...
Hi there - jusrt did a random search for Silvercore and saw this post. Probably the response is far too late for whatever you were asking for, but I've been living with, and loving, a pair of Silvercore 833MKII monoblocs for the last three years.
Compared to other low powered SET designs, the...
I don't know enough to know why a streamer should be simple to design but I suspect that it is anything but. Usually the simpler something is the harder it is to get right. It's like writing a really good 2000 word essay or an operating system in a few thousand lines of code. It's much harder to do.
These are exactly the ones i just bought and am currently listening to. They have one pair left priced at £700. I'm tempted to snaffle them up as a spare!
Langrex Hivac 12AU7
Langrex is 20 minutes drive from me.
I have a pair playing now in my pre-amp and they are superb. Exceptionally musical and well balanced across the spectrum. Bass is significantly enhanced with really weight and slam compared to my stock 12AU7WA tubes but also the mid range has been endowed with a sweetness and lucidity to it...
Was there any update on this? I have compared quite a few SPDIF cables and my favourite so far is the Z-Axis Reference, which beat all comers including a High Fidelity CT1-Ultimate that originally cost three times the price of the Z-Axis.
Others I've tried inlude the DLs (lower and mid), Wave...
I've managed to borrow a pair of Ayon 45s and have been advised that I could buy a pair new if I wanted (for the princely sum of £1000 mind you!) However, listening this evening and much as I like the 45s, I think that on reflection the 242s offer a better balance. It's very apparent that the...
That's a fair comment - I'm not especially deep pocketed; I bought my entire system with the proceeds of a house sale following a separation from a 17 year marriage that was about as difficult and emotionally scaring as it gets. It was a gift to myself and part of my healing. I know you weren't...
Ron, can't be a coincidence that you're asking about the Hivac 12au7 at the same time as I'm looking at buying a set myself. Have you also found where they're being sold?
I might plump for them (the retailer is actually 2 miles away from where I live!) and write them up. If you're interested I...
Someone asked the exact same question on the Facebook group for LDMS.
I think the answer to that question is performance at the price. There are certainly other exceptional servers available, the Taiko Extreme is the obvious example and, by all accounts from people who have compared the LDMS to...
Power amps are Silvercore 833 MKII mono blocs fed with a Concert Fidelity CF080 LSX3 pre amp. The Silvercores have 20W on tap so plenty for such high sensitivity speakers.
I never worked out whether he's a genuine believer of that stuff (huff?) or just doing it to make money from it, which is fair enough and not something I haev a particular problem with. I had a dialogue with him at one point years ago when I was developing my photography practise and he featured...
I like Steve but I am not sure I would trust a Hifi review from a guy who also claims he can hear the voices of the dead in the back ground static of a radio.
Posted a separate thread about this but figured that I might get more focused help here.
I just changed my speakers, a very big jump that has brought huge improvements. However, the previous speakers were quite dark and quite prone to getting a bit over enthusiastic in the bass region. To...
Hi there - I've been trying to source either new or vintage tubes of the above type but cannot find anywhere in the UK that offers these examples. Ideally they would be new versions (I've been told that vintage versions of these tubes tend to result in a deterioration of the bass response in a...
