I use pure solid core silver throughout my signal path and have never heard this outcome, despite popular belief out there. To my ears silver sounds more natural. Replaced all the internal copper wires in my Coincident PRE speakers with silver and couldn't be happier with the change.
I think they should have banned him after he tried to blind "pick your player" for the second time in the playoffs. The man is dignity free and should be dropped as such. Great player for helping your team pick up Ws though.
99.99% pure silver in loose teflon tubing (teflon/air dialectic)... from $202.31 per meter for 16 gauge stereo pairs to $493.31 per meter for 10 gauge stereo pairs. All solid core single wires. I'm a believer. https://www.tempoelectric.com/cables_speaker-cables.htm
Yeah, because he's getting to the end of his career. Clearly that organization is willing to put up with anything if they think a player will help them win, as evidenced by their tolerance of Green's physical assault on Poole last year... and their tacit support (i.e., organizational silence)...
Tempo electric is a very reasonable place to start if you get the itch... https://www.tempoelectric.com/cables_speaker-cables.htm
As I mentioned above, I replaced the internal wire in my Coincident PREs and the solid silver Tempo Electric was much better than the high quality braided copper...
I have not, although I do like the company and have enjoyed Ralph's dac. I'm sure they're great. Unfortunately quit my job and moved to Panama, so the time of sampling amplifiers has come to a close. Pretty happy with my simple two stage hybrid amplification path though (single tube DHT pre...
I am 100% a believer in silver. It just sounds more natural to me... at least in my limited experience/comparisons. Tempo electric and VH Audio for those of us with modest budgets. I went silver from amp output to speaker drivers (and all internal signal wire/interconnects upstream) and loved...
Amplifier brainstorming is an enjoyable reading experience. Why amplifiers Ron's not considering may or may not improve Wilson speakers and how exactly to describe their effects on Wilson speakers... considerably less (with the exception of graphs showing evenly distributed k2 harmonics across...
Sorry, the thread is long... how did you double the VTL power? By going to monoblocks?
I got a better soundstage in my amplifiers (DIY First Watt F4s) by going to monoblocks with non-shared power supplies even though I kept the overall system wattage the same. The distortion reduction...
That's 80 watts from a different amplifier, no? If so, I just don't see how you know to which factor to attribute the soundstage differences.
And if it's something you can't hear, who cares? Better to find the amplifier pairing that excels at exactly the things to which you are most...
Ahhh, here we go again with the dripping superiority.
You know it's possible to just state your opinion and keep the thoughts about how much better you are to yourself, right?
It's not trolling when it's the truth. It's clearly visible in the impulse response graphs, and as I said before... what's interesting to me is that some people really like that crossover solution and some do not. There are always tradeoffs. Wilson clearly prefers frequency domain...
Aside from the periodic devolving into bickering, I find this whole discussion really interesting. And I wonder if much of the "controversy" (i.e., variability in opinions) regarding Wilsons has to do with listener sensitivity to the various time-domain (vs. frequency domain) issues identified...
Sorry, what were you using before for amplification? Congrats on getting your beautiful Altecs on a circuit they were designed for and being rewarded for it!
I too tried to replace a SET with a Lyngdorf. Honestly, it made me kind of dizzy, like the sound had been put through a blender. I had the same problem with the PS Audio Directstream DAC. Something about that digital manipulation just doesn't work for me. Bizzare.
Seems to be a consistent belief among users of the Tungar PSs, even if it is placebo. That said, if you're changing the voltage, you will be changing how the driver performs. I don't remember the formulas, but I remember "Audiophile Bill" discussing that he could use differing PS voltages to...
Also, what's the black "goo" covering all your solder connections? I'm moving a system down to Panamá eventually and could see that helping with oxidation issues in this climate.
Sometimes the folks on diyaudio are inclined to argue that part quality doesn't really matter. Fortunately there are enough people out there who know that is absolutely not true.
Congrats on the great outcome!
Saw this ad for some nice field coil tungar power supplies on usaudiomart and thought someone here might be interested... https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/649975289-classic-audio-loudspeakers-dual-output-tungar-dc-power-supply/
A/B testing and short/long term listening are not orthogonal options... although I completely agree with your take, if you find yourself happier, why bother switching? That's what it's all about in your personal system.
I don't think people are doubting your successful experience, just that they're turned off by the company's misleading marketing materials.
For example, I never recommend Coincident products to people, despite loving some of their gear... just because the owner often lies in his product...
