ARC Ref 80 might be a suitable alternative. I play music quietly as well, but the dynamics and sudden deep bass notes can surprise me especially if I’m reading.
Best of luck with your search.
Being married to a Philippina and owning a house there will be our eventual retirement. They have a different philosophy than here in the Uk where the family look after the older generation which affords a significant assurance should we be unable to fully fend for ourselves in the future.
I’ve installed some room treatment and the ambient levels are very low.
Soundstage width extends well beyond the speaker boundaries even at low volume levels.
as the post above, they are a relatively easy and efficient speaker and have never experienced any issues with a “punishing load”.
I use audio research mono blocks and have generally always found them to be a good match having previously had system 7 and 8, then Sasha 2 until my present DAW’s.
Sorry, but have no experience of the amps you are discussing, but good luck with the new speakers.
Hi Andrew,
I’ve tried searching for you as well, including you tube..regrettably without success.
it may be time to purchase a new one unfortunately, you may even be able to borrow one for a short time if not in regular use?
I’ve put my koetsu urushi wajima for sale in hi-fi news, only 35 hours, perfect condition, can demo and photos on request. For sale at £2600 ovno. Anyone here interested is welcome to contact me for more details.
I’ve owned Accuphase dp-70v, dp-85 and lastly 900/901 combination.
Whilst working overseas and my ex-wife selling the latter, I started with an esoteric k01 and have a k-01xd with rubidium clock.
Both are excellent manufacturers, but wish Accuphase would make silver facias!Never had an issue...
I have my system to play music on. I attend concerts and/or festivals as and when practical to do so.
I will play vinyl records, CD/SACD’s and even downloads from my iPad whilst at work. No real desire to pigeonhole myself in any way.
Vangelis is just the tip of the iceberg. Im familiar with literally hundreds of artists in either this, derived or more traditional Berlin style and would be welcome to share any if of interest.
We’re presently in the phillipines via Singapore which has become prohibitively expensive.
I was once able to purchase equipment up to 50% less than Uk retail after shipping and taxes etc, but starting point is now Uk prices. same applies to vinyl and sacd’s etc.
wont be in a hurry to go back...
Which online Uk stores are they if you don’t mind sharing?
whilst I do buy audiophile records, not much is really to my taste preferring electronic music, but will wait for some titles to be reduced as the prices are generally too high. An example being the one step I robot from Juno records...
I considered purchase of a blue Hawaii, but no Uk importer so potentially an issue should something go wrong.
eventually purchased the 8000 to go with the 9000 headphones, simply excellent….
Best of luck with your eventual selection and purchase.
I feel my own system plays very well at low levels, my pre being used around the 9-15 mark (with 103 steps available) and the dynamics and bass are preserved (to my own taste) which is also non-intrusive in the rest of the house.
My late father was a firm believer in the preamp being the prime component with all inputs and outputs passing through. Prior to purchasing the first beverage rm-1/rm2 preamp in the Uk, he used the little known laboratory reference preamp from Luxman (before they entered a more mid-market...
You could also try artisan silver cables. Alister is very helpful and their nth degree cables are excellent and could be considered seriously underpriced compared to many companies offerings.
Quick note of warning. If they are exposed to moisture or condensation they will begin to corrode and dissolve. Please make sure they are nowhere near any electrical connections.
Having been unsuccessful in procuring a new koetsu, I’ve just ordered an Etsuro bordeaux whilst away for Xmas. They are recommencing manufacture in February 2024 and expecting mine around March.
There’s the obvious tangerine dream, Vangelis, Jean Michel jarre, klaus Schulze etc, then diversifying to Robert Schroeder, redshift, radio massacre international, Eric g, Peru, Gandalf, kitaro and the list goes on.
if you would like any specific recommendations or any more details, please drop...
Try contacting them directly, they may be able to recommend a demonstration close by?
was interested in them myself several years ago, but no UK importer and think potential re-sale in the future may be difficult as a consequence.
Best of luck to you.
I’ve been listening to and collecting electronic music for 40 years and don’t really ascribe to the monotonous beat, more traditional Berlin schule type and the hundreds of off-shoots thereafter.
would be happy to recommend from my 4000+ collection!
