I have a pair in my Deja vu push pull amps with vintage Chicago output transformers. They ae far better than any others I've heard and still breaking in.
Ive not heard these but I replaced the ones in my hand built all P2P wired, no transistor crap, dual mono pre amp with the top of the line 48 step Khozmo a and the diffenernce was huge.
If you werent so far away Id say come hear mine. Surely there must be an Ortofon Anna D in your area. Carful though, its like Acapulco Gold, or fine Cognac, once youve tasted it nothing else will quite satisfy again. LOL.
I had the boron before the diamond. IMHO you lose nothing and gain a lot. .Its the most 'believable' cartridge Ive heard. Beside it everything else Ive heard seems colored and even slow.
I wish I could afford an Ortofon Anna D to compare it to. And a Koetsu Rose Platinum sig. and an Audio...
Diamond cantilever is the way to go. I have a Transfiguration Proteus D and the transparency, openness and air are amazing. Hoping to acquire a Rosewood Platinum Signature before too long.
Ive not heard the Ortofon but I have a Transfiguration Proteus Diamond and it is far and way the most transparent, resolving cart Ive heard. Id go with the diamond cantilever every time.
I havent had the joy of hearing either the Koetsu or Anna D but do have one of the few Transfiguration Proteus D carts released before the owner died and the family closed the business (what a tragedy). I must say the diamond cantilever seems to allow an openness and air in the mids and highs...
I must agree that its largely subjective. Everyone's hearing is different.
Personally, I dont care for what I call the 'new' sound like the 1.2 million dollar VAC/Wilson system Ive heard at shows. Its big, bold, punchy, with some detail, but seems to have little of what I call 'finesse' that I...

Im late to this thread but in my experience, one major key to a successful horn system is getting the crossover right. Thats where the Klipsch fail. People buy these old Altec systems and think they are harsh but theyre using 40 year old xovers with caps and resistors out of spec and not...

Talk to Carlos Hernandez of Chela Audio. He relocated to Columbia and builds beautiful horn systems. He built the reproduction Altec 1505's in the photo. He does full systems as well. If you have trouble finding him you can reach me at hbs4y2001@yahoo.com
I owned the 20.1's and have heard the 30.7. The best value in the Maggies is the 1.7 and 3.7 (if those are still made) The big ones are just to much for most any room and driving them with tube electronics (which would get the best out of them) isnt a viable reality. As I understand they have...
Hard to beat Western Electric. They get the midrange right. Check out Deja Vu Audio in DC and San Diego. My horn system below.
