As for how the amplifier sounds, I think it sounds amazing.
My sound was better with the repaired amplifier and the old preamp, and it is even better with the repaired amplifier and the “new” Pandora.
I feel the sound has much more depth and presence than before. There is real slam with...
Ok, I am up and running!
I don’t understand the Green Bias setting which only lets me select Low or High.
I picked High but I have no idea what that means.
Actually, I don’t believe I can pick any setting except High. I am completely confused.
I’m running as much balanced as I can but the tape loop is unbalanced.
There are red disks under the unbalanced inputs to indicate which side is the right channel.
Facing the front of the amp, the right side is right, left side is left.
Ok, I’ll try it but I’ve always been a High bias guy. I dislike that fiddly little cable.
I’ve got all the DC cables connected and most of the power cables. There are a lot of cables, lol.
This may seem silly but why don’t I see Left and Right marked on the back of the control unit? Maybe I...
I think I’m of the opinion that I will decide the bias and that High is where most of the magic lives, so, I don’t think I’ll connect it.
Besides that, I don’t like that type of cable and find it hard to install on the bottom of the Cantata speakers. It will be difficult on the bottom of the...
I’m building it as we speak.
The guy at Lowe’s was pretty impressed by how much gear was going into the rack, lol.
I figured out a way to use a washer and a nut as a safeguard in case the top nut breaks. The rod will only drop about 1/4” if that happens.
Thanks for your thoughts, John and Lloyd. Nice work building your own racks!
Here is my rack. There is a heavy steel plate on top and thin metal rods are threaded through a nut.
The plate is supposed to be lifted in the air by inner tubes but the tubes don’t hold air so I don’t use them.
I’ll...
The Pandora is not stacked. The power unit and control unit are on different shelves. The dashed lines are shelves.
I am wondering if I should use a double shelf for the control unit.
After taking all of my components off of the rack and trying to put it back together, I realize that the threaded rods holding the shelves are not long enough to allow me to fit all of the components.
It will work if I buy threaded rods that are a few inches longer, around 48”
I’m too tired to...
Ok, I’m swapping preamps today, putting in the Pandora to replace the Spread Spectrum Technologies Ambrosia.
I need five shelves in the rack and one on top for the turntable. My rack is nothing special.
Does anybody make a rack like I have for a decent price? I can’t spread out horizontally...
I got the Denon and love it. It runs a web server that makes it easy to schedule repeated recordings.
The only problem is that I have no way to set the source. Some source switching happens in my DAC and some in my preamp and I know of no way to do that automatically.
Thanks! I was beginning to doubt if there was any difference between my backup amp and the Colosseum but there is a lot of difference.
Of course, we all accept the sound we get but it was nice to remember why I bought the Colosseum in the first place.
Ah, that Class A magic is back!
I couldn’t turn it up to a reasonable volume at 2am but now, I can.
It’s obvious what I have been missing.
I can’t wait to see where the Pandora takes me.
One of the repair guys said he had not heard a better amplifier in the shop. He has certainly heard...
Speak, Amplifier
Well, yesterday was the day. After a month of cleaning out my parent’s house and overseeing a renovation, I picked up the Gryphon Colosseum from Soundsmith in Peekskill.
The drive from Peekskill to Pittsburgh was difficult. There was fog as I crossed the Bear Mountain Bridge...
I wonder how the Mojo S would sound next to my Gryphon Cantatas.
It certainly is a business. They need to hit price points that will sell, as you said.
Unfortunately, neither the EOS2 nor the EOS5 will work for me. The first wants to be close to the rear wall and the second is too large for...
I thought you would never ask. Yes, the problem has been fixed. Here is what I have been told:
"It was a thermal design issue that caused premature part failure. The good news is that we have modified the board so this will not happen again to this part of the circuit and did our modification...
Thanks for that photograph. I'm afraid the base of the EOS 5 is significantly larger than base of the EOS2, and that will make it a difficult sell for me.
It's too bad. I was really excited about it.
To be honest, looking at the video of the EOS 5, I think it would be too large. Besides that, I need to know if it is expected to be placed near the rear wall.
The trouble is that EOS2 wants to be close to the back wall and I can't do that, as I mentioned before.
Sigh.
Thanks so much, @Laurusri ! Much appreciated.
There is the irony of being on the road to pay for speakers that one does not get time to listen to, haha.
Does anybody know the dimensions of the EOS 5? EOS2? I have been searching the net but I cannot seem to find the dimensions.
If one were interested in purchasing either one of those, how would one go about it? Could someone DM me with advice? Thanks.
The trouble is that I have placed all of my furniture to get the Cantatas off of the back wall, lol. I don’t think I have any openings that would allow me to put the speakers close to the back wall.
Can I assume that the EOS5s would be placed farther from the back wall?
I’m going to have to...
Well, you have one of those dog bass traps to absorb the bass, I don’t have one of those. :)
We do have similar sized listening areas. I’m surprised that you say you are getting huge bass out of such small speakers. How is this possible?
My wife would love for my speakers to be moved back. I...
