    RADA Precious One Phono

Each of the two 12V batteries has their own internal BMS, monitoring overheating, voltage and other parameters. In the first picture above, next to the King Lear book, you see the battery charger and its long cord connected to the batteries. This charger is specifically designed for this...

    RADA Precious One Phono

Yes I have the black gate cap on the DaVa along with a bypass cap. Here is the battery supply story...it is long... When I moved house and set up my room for audio, I had three dedicated lines put in by the same electrician who worked on the house when it was built (before my time, in 2008)...

    RADA Precious One Phono

A few weeks ago I received the Precious One phono preamp from Dalius Razanas of Rada. This is the “silver version with a maximum upgraded power supply for 120 V. All tubes NOS: 6X4 as a rectifier; 2X 6AU6WA (GE or TungSol) as input tubes and…very rare French 5687 as output tube” to quote the...

Do Mobile Fidelity Vinyl Re-issues Have a Digital Step in the Process?

The digital front page of the Washington Post just put this up: https://www.washingtonpost.com/music/2022/08/05/mofi-records-analog-digital-scandal/ Excerpt: Mike Esposito still won’t say who gave him the tip about the records. But on July 14, he went public with an explosive claim. In a...

Good audio reproduction as performance art ....

The Times piece is itself odd, looking at this fellow and his speaker creations through a fashion lens, but also kind of like an advert for him. You can tell the writer has no idea about audio, so he is writing about it as a hip(?) cousin to ....fashion? But Turnbull seems to have found...

Good audio reproduction as performance art ....

There is a write up in today's NY Times on Turnbull: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/25/style/devon-turnbull-ojas-speakers.html. Anyone familiar with his creations? There is more info here: https://www.resistormag.com/features/devon-turnbull-old-school-hi-fi-influencer/

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

I think Lief has the best advice for fixing the hum problem. In my system, I am running the regular DaVa and the DaVa SUT, same as Bill. I also have no connection between DC and ground. I do have my SUT grounded to my AS Phonolab phono, and from there run a ground wire to the star ground point...

    Endgame monoblock amp choice

Without having directly compared them to Gryphons and Lamms, I can't say. But they are a great match with my Apogee Duettas matched with the Rossi L2 preamp. As for heat, they don't produce that much, but in my room there is ample space around them.

    Endgame monoblock amp choice

I’m the friend Marc referred to with Apogee Duetta Sigs and Parasound JC1+s. My Apogees Sigs have been completely rebuilt by Jon Oakey of Reality Audio. I had an Analog Domain integrated on them, which was a fine match, but perhaps a bit lean. My Apogees are extremely revealing and extended...

The fabulous Silversmith Fidelium Speaker Cable

Both you and Ozzy have Focal Sopras and both of you didn't like the cable (by the way you could have learned that fact before you bought because Ozzy put his opinion right in this thread!). Quite a large majority of others, who have posted here and elsewhere, clearly own and like the cable...

The fabulous Silversmith Fidelium Speaker Cable

I'm glad it turned out what the Silversmith hater guessed at turned out to be true--and yes it would have been better for you to have that info before you spent time on it (I assume Jeff at Silversmith refunded you so you weren't out money as well). The reason I jumped on your post was you...

The fabulous Silversmith Fidelium Speaker Cable

This "analysis" is a speculation based on a guess about what metals are used in the Fidelium cables by someone who has never seen nor heard it. And this "analysis" looks to be fully troll-driven. Go over (hold your nose) to that Audiogon site and read for yourself.

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

Rather than go the immediate caps on the headshell route with its dangerous soldering, I opted to try a 0.22uf bypass cap on the Audio Note. This is a Wima cap (modified by Ric Schultz/EVS), cheapo price but big benefit. My soldering is certainly not the prettiest, but the sound is more...

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

Thanks, Bill, for the replies! I think I can manage the Black Gates or other tiny super low mass caps on my headshell without balance or excessive weight issues. I don't have any hum issues at current. Given the aural benefits you are hearing with the shield floating, I think I may skip a new...

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

Hi Bill, Quite impressive looking and I am sure more than impressive sounding! Let me see if I have this right: you ran the 2 x 26GA + shielded wire to the Black Gates and then soldered or attached the shield to the wand? Then you soldered the original dc wire running from the two fc clips to...

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

I am running Darius' SUT on my regular DaVa, plugged into an AS Phonolab MM 47K setting. It was immediately hugely better--extension, overall purity, dynamics, listener involvement, more lifelike vocals, broader soundstage, etc. Pretty much a knock-out. Only problem was some hum, but so had to...

Bill, Any news on using a 3rd stage of filtration with an additional cap?

DaVa FC-A1 a field coil contender

I have been reading this entire thread for some months with fascination and interest. With Bill’s encouragement, I put the money down for a DaVa months ago. Yesterday I installed it. With only a few hours yet, it is clearly a smooth, balanced and very full range instrument. I know I am early...
