Berkeley has had a problem with the supplier who performs the CNC machining of their Ref DAC's chassis. The chassis being produced were not flawless in their appearance. Mike Ritter of Berkeley is accepting nothing less than perfection in his units' appearance. I believe that this production...

    Hint of new Magico products

Reliable sources have names. We shall see. It is amazing - a 100K price increase! That number keeps the current Q7 customers happy and makes it harder, or now even impossible, for others to aspire to this vaunted model. I own the Q5's and love them. When I saw Alon this past summer, we had...

Okay, that being said, when should I call to schedule? Can I get in a queue now? Do you need a deposit to hold my place(s)? Please let me know. Thanks!

New and Updated Shunyata Research Power Conditioners Announced

Enough said and that is a major "Wow"! I will call Rich Rogers this week to begin the scheduling. I want to do one at a time so that I am not "out of commission" with my systems. Will do the main rig first. Sure I am pleased with my system, however I could always be more pleased with it!;)...

New and Updated Shunyata Research Power Conditioners Announced

I have been quiet for a while as I am still awaiting my Berkely Reference DAC. They have had a problem with their CNC supplier in receiving clean chassis. Mike Ritter at Berkeley tells me I am about a month away. When I finally have this in my system (Been waiting since September!), I will do a...

    Hint of new Magico products

If I may add, Magico will be utilizing a form of their midrange/tweeter sub enclosure in the revamped Q line that they first used in their S3 loudspeaker. This is per a conversation that I had with Alon over the summer when I had auditioned the S3's. When? I do not know.

No I did not remove the Spectral preamp to audition. Bob Harley did not remove his preamp for his review of the Reference DAC either. He ran the DAC at an output level of "59" into his Constellation Virgo preamp. I ran the output of the DAC at "54" into my Spectral DMC-30SSII preamp, as per the...

Also, try to do some of your comparative listening on reference grade headphones, taking out the speaker/room interactions. I find headphone listening very instructive for critical equipment evaluations.

Bring it home with an open mind. You will see! As another reviewer had commented "Game changing". Don't bring it home, and you will save money! I will keep you up to date on two things - The Shunyata/MIT and the Shunyata/Berkeley after I have mine running in the stem for a while. (I am counting...

You are right about Harley's assessment. He did say that the DAC sounds like a mike feed, and that is what I am hearing - spooky real. Currently no analogue on my setup. I ditched my Goldmund table years ago. Always found records too noisy, no matter how "quiet". There was always a small "tick"...

ack, I find your comments about your experience interesting, to say the least. Our findings could not be further apart. Before I go on, and I do not want to came across as arrogant, as I do not know the context of your A/B comparison. I do not know how many hours were on the Berkeley DAC, what...

Greetings Nirhoda, I will do my best to answer this for your needs. Yes there is a sonic difference between the older and newer Spectral players. The "SL" is quieter and more detailed. This is a result of the lower jitter from the memory buffer/industrial disc drive. How much better? 10-15%...

I currently own both players. I can try to help you if you give me the context of your question. Do you currently own a SDR-4000 Reference and are looking to upgrade? Are you looking to buy one or the other? Are you just curious? Please be patient if I do not answer immediately, as I am very...

DMA 200 S2: my first Spectral: cabling ?

I can tell you from personal experience that the top of the line MIT Oracle MA-X SHD IC's and SC's sound great with my Spectral 30SS-DMA400 - Magico Q5 set up. I am sure that your set up now sounds great. It will not be quite as extended, expansive or deep a sound stage, as dynamic, nor...

    Transparent Magnum Opus

I have said this before, tongue in cheek, but it bears repeating: There was a time when if someone said to you, "Your audio system sounds like a million bucks", it would be taken as a compliment. At present, we have approached a time when if that once complimentary statement were made, it...

Transparent Opus Level Cables are Luxury Goods - Food for Thought.... I am late to the "party" on this discussion. I have owned Transparent products over the years, since their inception in the mid 1980's. I use and enjoy their Opus MMII cabling in my secondary system. If my primary system were...

I did try. Thank you. I heard no perceptible audible difference or improvement, perhaps a small degradation in the bass response away from the wall... Against the wall, I sit such that my head is about 30" from the back wall. Remember the room is acoustically tuned for the sofa in this position...

I wish that I could, as I have done this with a chair before the sofa's arrival and there is an additional benefit, but not that much in my room. I also do not have the "wiggle room" to do this. Art Noxon of ASC corporation had laid out his recommendation of room treatments with a sofa in this...

I'll try...When I was younger I flew planes. Props, not jets, though. Flew them before I could drive! (Local airport was across the alley from my grandparent's home, and I had an obsession with them as a youngster.) Wouldn't get into one of those Cessna's today. Lost too many family friends over...

Thanks! The Requiem is not my taste in music. I am not big on any music with a chorus (It may have to do with being forced to attend services every morning before class at private school, in my youth!), opera, or rap, yet I do enjoy classical orchestral music, jazz, swing, vocal, some country...

The Spectral DMA-400's are mind blowingly better sounding than other Spectral Amps that I have run in my audio system - DMA 150, 180, and 360. WAY more detailed, dimensional and dynamic. Subtleties in the reproduced sound are both abundant and continual. Could be a function of faster slew rate...

Wait pays off - Hit the Spectral jackpot

Yes, I have vetted this approach with Spectral and my dealer. I have been down your road! I can relate to your frustration from my identical first hand experience. FYI... The DMA 400's (and I assume the similar design DMA 300) are even more sensitive to the grounding issues than your DMA 360's...

AC to preamp grounded. I use cheater plugs on my Shunyata power cords that are connected to my Spectral amps. Bought them at Home Depot and I gave them a good polishing and cleaning before using them. Do this and listen to beautiful music without any grounding issues or worries!
