Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

Lots of valves like UX 226, RCA number 31 (type 231 I think). Many look similar to UX112. Anyone looked into these?

Lampizator Valve / Tube Rolling Review Thread

I have a couple of output valves on the way for the GG2, these haven't been matched. Any harm in trying them? If they sound ok is that fine? Cheers, Tim

How do you listen to new components?

Good stuff. I’m ok when differences are really big. It’s the more subtle ones really. Your points make sense!

How do you listen to new components?

Typically when I’m switching Dac’s, cables, valves etc in my own system. After a short about of time I find it hard to focus.

How do you listen to new components?

I find the quick switching of kit pretty useless, where I quickly lose track of how something sounds and it all blurs into one. The more I switch the worse this is. So I’ve changed to long term listening then changing something out and seeing what I notice. What technique do you find most...

Does "competes with much more expensive" actually exist?

Thanks all. I do find that most of the people involved in cult following of cheaper kit, a) have midrange systems at best b) are measurement only matters belief c) haven’t compared it themselves with more expensive kit and therefore have no experience

Does "competes with much more expensive" actually exist?

Very interesting all, I sadly have a limited budget so can’t prove anything for myself. Hence looking for some level of value when I buy. My system isn’t bad, to most normal people it’d be extreme. The only way I can differentiate between reviews is where they compare products, typically at the...

Does "competes with much more expensive" actually exist?

So what of reference level gear of 15 or more years ago. Is the quality to price ratio dropping all the time? (Not counting digital)

    ARC ref 3... what next?

Be great to get a few more opinions as there are so many experienced people on here. I may up my budget if something is worth it too.

    ARC ref 3... what next?

Thanks, I don’t need too much warmth, neutral or bright would probably be best.

    ARC ref 3... what next?

How would the sound of the CJ be compared to ARC?

    ARC ref 3... what next?

    Ayreman I’ve already sold it

Does "competes with much more expensive" actually exist?

So I've been randomly reading up on pre-amps and coming across claims of "xyz competes with much higher priced gear". Is any of this true? Outside of cost not object, are there some high end makes that are better for value for money or is this just hype?

    ARC ref 3... what next?

Thanks all, this is really helpful. I shall get looking! If anyone is UK based and has something good around the £5k mark let me know.

    ARC ref 3... what next?

    Oh and ARC V140 monoblocks!

    ARC ref 3... what next?

So out of the blue I have a buyer for my ARC reference 3. With some different valves in I was happy with it, except for the treble which just wasn’t quite bright enough (not far off). In terms of large scale imaging what would be the next step up? I have a budget of <£5k and and will look for...

    Golden gate Earth

Any advice on using the earth on the Lampizator? Is this worth bothering with? Cheers Tim

When my preamp is back I’ll test mine on my golden gate 2.

    Re-clockers....

What lps do you guys rate? There’s a sea of them including a lot of moderately priced Chinese ones that look ok £200 region. This would be for a 5v 1 amp or more unit.

    Re-clockers....

Ah thanks that's useful info. I'm running Wifi into my streamer at the moment. :)

By the way Empirical what's this about? EMO EN-70e isolator

    Re-clockers....

Very interesting that on audio science they pre-suppose that noise floor and small amounts of jitter are not important. There must be something going on here for these units to make improvements that a) they are not measuring or b) the results of them are actually audible or c) as they like to...

    Re-clockers....

Just picked up an Ideon just to see what the fuss is about. Only the 3R but I'll put a decent psu on it before evaluation. There are a number of these coming onto the market and I'm hearing more about them. Are you sold on the need for these? Has anyone compared any against each other...

Is there a streamer front end that doesn't cost mountains!?

Picked up the cheaper Ideon clock will give it a try when I get my pre fixed. :) Goran, do you think both USB cables are of equal importance given the re-clocking?

    USB Cable recommendation

I have a USB re-clocker and need a cable to go from my streamer to it. I have no idea if I need good quality given the fact that the device "should" improve the signal after it leaves it. Looking for a USB cable recommendation for £200 or less. I'm in the UK so ideally not something I'd have to...

    Improvements from isolation?

Interested in your experience here. I've been playing around with many different types of isolation on my system, which consists of a tube pre, record deck and tube power amps. The power amps are very sensitive to vibration and hugely boom in the bass if placed directly on the floor. I've...

    My feels about this forum

Hi all, Thought I'd share some thoughts, and ask a few questions. I'm from the UK and have been into hifi for many years. Recently started to spend more time here having been mostly on pinkfish and hifiwigwam forums. Firstly thanks to all who've been really helpful, welcoming and friendly. I...

Help with my first ,budget, audiophile system

What is your budget for this? Most people I've met on this forum are spending huge sums hence an immediate $4k suggestion! You will hit issues with spending roughly £200 on amps, then switching for other amps again in this price range. You'll get trade offs. Simplest advice in this area is to...
