Visited KS audio store here in BKK today. KS is the importer of SonusFaber products. I wanted to audition the Stradivari. Vorathep, the owner, told me that some exciting new products are coming from Sonus. There is a new top model, a four-unit set consisting of two towers -- rather slender...
New SonusFaberAida II, a "special edition", has been announced. Features a leather covering on the front, with a SF logo stamped on it. Price: 140,000 Euros, 10% discount if you order before March 31 2024. No idea if there are more upgrades in this "special model," but just putting leather...
If i was in Finland i would go listen to these. If i had room for more speakers i would buy them my self. :) https://www.audio-markt.de/market/sonus-faber-aida-9285933033
In this price range my shortlist would include Alexia V, Stenheim Alumine 5, Clarisys Studio Plus, Goebel Marquis, new SonusFaber Stads or used Aida and finally the new B&W 801 D4 Signature model. I would suggest taking your time and listening to various models. Happy shopping.
This is a huge gamble for SF. The largest package they ever did was the Fenice some years ago. The Aida II the next biggest has been, if I'm not mistaken, their flagship for many years now. Any halo product is a gamble. The Muon for example did little for KEF. Ironically the Blade was what did...
I just upgraded to SF Aidas from il Cremonese. I have SF Gravis vi subwoofers. I've heard these with MacIntosh and was not impressed. My components are ARC Ref 6SE and Ref3SE preamps with Aesthetix Eclipse monoblocks. Really enjoying the set up.
Wow! Gorgeous, nicely priced - at least at the link provided - and one review I found simply raved about them. (And that was a reviewer who, like me, is biased towards electrostatics.)
What's the catch? It seems too good to be true.
Hi SBNX, yes the SonusFaberAida does have rear-projection drivers, but there is zero information on the design goals, and technical details on how the crossovers/rear drivers complement the front firing drivers. I've auditioned them in various locations/set ups, mainly at AXPONA 2022 and...
Howie, I just read your essay about the journey through all the speakers. There’s no substitute for the experience of owning things and living with them. We all wish the hobby was less expensive. Thanks for sharing that history.
There are more - some of my Audio Show winners over the years make speakers at $80k
Acapella Audio Arts, Audio Note UK AN E speakers (17 versions ranging from around $7,000 to $400,000+ (Field Coils)), AVID Reference speakers, Perfect 8 Technologies:
Along with others that get up there: Scaena...
Yes, unfortunately it seems the mobile phone application is not able to smooth spectra or compute slopes.
See for example, the SonusFaberAida in my room (two different distances from speaker to back wall, REW , 1/6 octave smoothing - different, surely, but comparable with the Stereophile...
I have found the 160M's to sound excellent on the occasions I've listened to them with the speakers I've heard them with. I'm kind of surprised however they didn't ever come out with larger versions of these amps as I did attend one demo that used them with albeit very difficult to drive...
SonusFaberAida-
I was anxious to hear the big ones due to my excellent classical demo of the Il Cremonese last year. The Aidas are gorgeous, unimposing, and had a nice room. TOTL Boulder 3k preamp/amp, dCS, and a Clearaudio Statement TT (!!).
Spent a half hour in this room, with the full...
I am considering moving from SonusFaber Stradivaris to a minty pair of Aida 1st Generation.
After a few conversations with owners of Aidas, I have some conflicting view points. Either they love them or they couldn’t sell them fast enough.
Would any existing or previous owners of Aidas...
...Ron, I don't really subscribe to any loudspeaker theory so my thought process might not make any sense. For the full chain it was SonusFaberAida - Stenheim Reference Ultime - Goebel Divin Noblesse - Tannoy Westminster - Audio Note AN/E.
I had the Aidas for quite a few years and didn't...
Surely if you ask someone who prefers vinyl and a particular type of sound you get biased advice. I quote Michael Fremer describing his listening of digital recording LP:
" At around 2am, as the reverberation of the Ninth's last notes faded away, I found myself exhausted, overwhelmed, and...
Why do you insist on systematically trying to distort my intentions or use my posts to nick people? Just to give me the hassle to write you are clueless about the subject?
Mike Fremer is an open minded reviewer and the opposite of the anti digital link in LPs - although he praises the pure...
...are known for their detailed and dynamic sound, and their relatively high sensitivity makes them a good match for the Lamm ML3 amps.
SonusFaberAida: These loudspeakers are known for their warm and musical sound, and their relatively high sensitivity makes them a good match for the Lamm ML3...
...of tonality. Having a speaker that offers some adjustability is a huge thing in getting it to work in a room. The only speaker in your list that has adjustability it the VSA. Another speaker similar is the SonusFaberAida. It offers a good amount of adjustability and something to consider.
Ridiculous answers, but written a way that suggests good knowledge of the subject , The consequence is that sometime in the future someone inexperienced can come to this forum and reading careless the posts will consider it a great advice.
I thank you for your care Ron, but IMO you are...
Lloyd,
I have owned and enjoyed the Stradivari. Although it was a great speaker , IMHO no way the performance of an amplifier in the bass in this speaker can be extrapolated to Marty ambitions. The bass of the Stradivari did not have the articulation and extension of the big WIlson's, I would...
Wondering what experience members have had with the best matching amplifiers for the Reference Series SonusFaber speaker range? Referring to models such as IL Cremonese (I own these), Lilium and Aida.
Also be interesting experiences with the new Tradition range Amati or the older Amati...
