Michael Fremer Joins The Absolute Sound

Glad to read Tracking Angle is making a return. I missed out on the print version but visited the website in the 2000's quite often when I started getting into vinyl again.

All NEW Perlisten Audio S7T Loudspeakers...The World's BEST At ANY PRICE ?!

I auditioned these in a dealer's treated audio room along with the Magico A5 and Magico M2, at the end of last year. I had no plans to listen to Magico but they were there. Both Magico speakers were noticeably better in that listening environment. All were being driven by a D'agostino Momentum...

    Luxman D10x USB Input

The great thing with both of those components are the different options you have. So if I remove the X1 which I think I’ll do, I’m going to use the streaming board built into my Vitus integrated amp. While not as capable on its own as the Lumin (and definitely not the Lumin into the Luxman)...

    Luxman D10x USB Input

Yes, I used usb because I wanted to test how the Lux sounded in general, knowing that I could stream DDS files at some point in the future. I tried coaxial as well but thought the usb sounded better. That could be due to either component, though. I only tried a few usb cables but loved what I...

    Luxman D10x USB Input

I have both as well and in my setup the D10x sounds better to me! The Lumin X1 supposedly has a better usb output compared to their other players.

Is the money spent eliminating Wall Warts worth the cost in improved SQ?

I replaced the stock plug on my switch and it improved the sound so go for it!

I totally agree with that. What kind of differences were there between the TQ and Cardas speaker cable?

Furutech DPS-4.1 limited edition power cable vs Nanoflux power NCF

If you're simply changing connectors to the NCF version on a Furutech Nanoflux cable, it's as simple as unscrewing one and assembling the NCF in its place. The wires inside the Furutech Nanoflux are terminated with spades. At least that was my experience with my Furutech power cables.

    Smooth musical cabling suggestion

There probably would be a small chance of damage happening in one's system - I imagine it happened from being in and out of demo systems around the country. Please report back with how you like them. It's still a speaker cable I might like to have at some point.

    Smooth musical cabling suggestion

I did a demo with a TQ Statement loom of speaker cables, interconnects, and power cables and then a second demo with the speaker cable (and maybe the interconnect again - it's been at least 2 years) As a loom, it was compelling. It was smooth and musical. On their own, and in my opinion, the...

    Smooth musical cabling suggestion

I can't speak to the Firebird series. I own Dragon and Thunderbird speaker cables, Earth and WEL IC's, and Dragon PC's. If you feel your system is accentuating something at top end, the only one I'd say NOT to try is a WEL IC. It's a great interconnect but it will go in the opposite direction...

    Smooth musical cabling suggestion

You hit on what held me back from purchasing them - price. Not that I can’t afford them. I own a couple of pairs of far more expensive speaker cables. But they seemed overpriced for their construction and I felt at the price there were probably other good options to seek out. But don’t get me...

    Smooth musical cabling suggestion

I've demo'd TQ Statement speaker cables twice and I liked them a lot. They might fit the bill. They have a great deal of clarity but it's balanced by what I heard as a rich low end. Alternatively, for copper cables, while underperforming the above, AQ Thunderbird might work if you're trying to...

Box cables vs quality material cables. Where your money goes?

That's what I thought but I am entirely unfamiliar with the Esprit cable and couldn't find that model on their website. I only thought that might be the insinuation because I'm not in love with the idea of boxes of circuitry on cables. Hopefully the OP provides some context.

Box cables vs quality material cables. Where your money goes?

What is the conclusion you are trying to suggest with that comparison? I'm unclear about what you're trying to point out with the comparison and if you see the 4 cables as examples of the same type of cable or if you're comparing some of them against each other. Thanks in advance.

    Belden Iconoclast cables

They're sold through the https://www.iconoclastcable.com website, assembled by Blue Jeans Cable in the Northwest, and shipped from there. I believe they have a 30 day no questions asked return policy. I've used the return policy without issue. The Iconoclast rep, Bob Howard, is good to talk to...

    Belden Iconoclast cables

They offer a free trial. The OCC 4x4 XLR is a great cable. I'm using it in both of my systems. It sounds balanced, detailed and naturally warm at the same time to me.

    Belden Iconoclast cables

That sure doesn't sound like a description of the UPOCC 4x4 interconnects from Iconoclast that I've purchased in the last couple of years. Do you know what kind of RCA you tried? There are 2 build types with 3 different conductor options in each build.

    Belden Iconoclast cables

I went with the 4x4 OCC because that's what I had experience with. My experience managing linearity of velocity propagation is hit or miss... I haven't heard the 4x1 but comparing a 4x4 OCC vs the Mogami should go in the Iconoclast's favor barring an unfavorable interaction with...

    Belden Iconoclast cables

I recently ordered a 26 foot length XLR interconnect and it has the same attributes as the shorter length between my source and pre. As long as you're happy with the interaction with your other cables, it's a great cable.

    Marantz SA-10S1 Sound Quality Improvement

I'm still amazed by my SA-10 in combo with the PM-10, daily. For a few months, I've been enjoying filter 1, dither off, and the noise shaping 3rd 1 settings. Sounds perfect to me. As you suggest, I have everything turned off that doesn’t need to be on; digital outputs, headphone amp off in...

Luxman's new D-10X flagship sacd player

I was surprised by the recent review in What Hifi of the D-10x that described its sound as analytical and lean through the midrange. That's not what I expect to hear from previous descriptions of other Lux components. I suppose I need to hear it for myself but it dampens my enthusiasm to audition it

    Mac OS Big Sur

I updated last night. No issues with anything at the moment and took the 5 minute tour that pops up in the Notification Center. Furutech DPS-4.1 limited edition power cable vs Nanoflux power NCF

Furutech writes that the NCF Nanoflux has "Neo-damper – Furutech's highly effective vibration damping material incorporated in cable build - only found in NanoFlux NCF power cord."

Furutech DPS-4.1 limited edition power cable vs Nanoflux power NCF

Following up, I would add it's not worth replacing the connectors on the non-NCF version with NCF connectors. I still like the NCF Nanoflux and regular Nanoflux better. That's they way they're built and the non-NCF Nanoflux sounds better with the non-NCF terminations, in my opinion. I was...
