I tried fiber between an EtherRegen and SOtM with unsatisfactory results. Used several SFP’s and cables, tried single and multi mode. I’m open to try it again before the ER and SOtM.

You are in a pickle. For me, it was easy to choose SQ and move on. I can live with the Sense app and Qobuz. I don't miss paying for Roon.

I use the SOtM dCBL-CAT7u with dCBL-CAT7 LAN cable special edition on my Innuos server, it is pretty impressive. I have several of the dCBL-CAT7 between my 3 switches and have one of the CAT6 cables.

What are they referring to when they mention the I2S "includes master clock from the DAC" and how does it differ from the typical I2S signal?

I suspect that in spite of all the updates Roon will never be as good as the alternatives in an audiophile sense. It is more a tip of the spear cataloging app with a decent player that is more than adequate for the majority of its users.

Not familiar with the Project but it appears meant to be used with the Pre-amp as it has a better clock. The Jays has an OXCO clock and clock in and out, plus I2S out. Seems like a no brainier, send it back.

When I dont hear a difference I will listen for 2-3 weeks too one and then 2-3 weeks with the other then change back. I can usually pick one after that.

A good clock can make a big big difference. I use a Mutec Ref10 for both the EtherRegen and SOtM as one needs a 50 Ohm and the other 75 Ohm input.

Also tried EtherRegen > SOtM > ENO Ag. It did not work well for me. Thin and lacking low bass.
