The Bendix tube is quite "interesting" from a build perspective... (description and picture from tubedepot.com) This is the world famous Bendix brand 6106 / 5Y3WGT tube type. Built like a tank, these tubes were built by Bendix for extreme conditions. They sound great and last forever. The...

you should be fine, it's an old "Lampi trick" and I personally don't even remember the last time I had a USB cable with vbus connected to any of my Lampis. nice to have the clear instructions provided by @Sablon Audio here. from my server to my Innuos PhoenixUSB the vbus is indeed needed though.

Curious as I am I had to try the Brimar 5Z4GY rectifier also, and even though I've seen it battling some top notch rectifiers here as well as on other forums, I didn't quite expect to put my own GEC U52 on the shelf. The Brimar sounds very clear, detailed and open, I think it could be referred...

As I've had my B3 for almost 2 years now I recently started to reflect about potential upgrades or where to possibly go next. For the record I have never owned a DAC this long before! After talking with some people, thinking and turning upside down on everything I came to the conclusion that I'm...

are you using XLR or RCA output? Try using RCA's if possible, it might help a bit... if you have a volume control on your B3 you could always lower the volume a bit to get a better matching with your preamp?

Uhm, I have been using 6F8G's for so long that I don't remember, but I had a pair of Sylvania's metal base from the 1940's that was quite nice. A lot of people swear by the Melz, just make sure to get the "right model" as there seems to be some variations there and they're not all the same.

it measures about 14 cm (I don't know what it is in arms and legs etc), but remember you need some space to actually insert/remove the tubes and also for the heat and air ventilation. I wouldn't go with less than 16 cm free height as an absolute minimum.

Maybe in form, they are after all cones, but the material is very different I believe.

I wrote few pages back (but worth repeating) that I'm using the Graphite Audio IC-35 footers, this is another brand from Poland and LampizatOr are actually offering them as extra option for some of the DAC's on the website. https://graphiteaudio.com/products/ic-35-isolation-cones/ I think...

hehe, there's always "another tube" to test.... ;) I think it was a great effort as it was done, very interesting, thank you @Sablon Audio ! and also with some interesting results I must say. it's a good thing that with tubes the most expensive doesn't necessarily need to be the best or to your...

Nice! That rectifier comparison looks exciting! I should mention btw that those Woo adapters I use for 6F8G tubes took quite a while to either burn-in or get used to, at first I thought they were very thin and flat sounding and that I lost some weight from the cheap adapters I used to have, but...

if it was perfect for you without VC, then I think that's your answer. I think it's very much up to personal preferences how we configure our systems, for example some people prefer monoblocks, some people wants a preamp/power amp combo, some (like me) an integrated amp. if you don't have or...

    Sablon power cords

Me of course also ordered a palladium Prince (being in Europe) if that wasn't clear from my testimonial above... ;) @Mike Lavigne and @LL21 if this is your first Sablon experience, I would really encourage you to also try the interconnects and speaker cables in the new "Evo" model. Very...

    LampizatOr Baltic 3

always difficult to know, but considering the jaw dropping experience you're describing I'd say it probably has something to do with the B3 coming to life in its burn-in process (or at least a combination), while I haven't heard those Gold Lion ECC82's I doubt they would be THAT much better. I...

    Sablon power cords

Summer period is somewhat becoming a favourite period for me because then I usually have both the time and the possibility to do extensive loans and testings of different audio products. One of the first products that I was given the opportunity to test this year was the palladium plated Sablon...

Absolutely, and that's my personal preferred way, to keep the DAC simple. We are lucky to be able to customise a bit for our different needs. IIRC the volume option was not even available from the beginning but added later, probably by popular demand. I think it was said the B3 come as it is, no...

I got a pair of RCA 12bh7a with black plates dimpled D getter from 1958 the other day. I first put them in my amplifier for use in it's preamp section but they turned out to be incredibly microphonic! I've not heard a tube ring like that before when tapping it or by only adjusting the volume...

There's no High/Low gain switch on the B3 anymore, hopefully "it just works" for everyone now... :)

    LampizatOr Baltic 3

absolutely, I didn't mean that so harsh I was only trying to point out that there's many preferences and different opinions, people will always have different taste and it's maybe about filtering and trying to identify people on forums who you think might have similar taste as yourself etc, I...

    LampizatOr Baltic 3

congrats to your new B3! :) can there ever be a consensus about subjective things as how something sounds? I think that's the whole idea with tubes and being able to roll them yourself that you can tune the sound to your liking and personal preferences. there's no right or wrong here...

I agree, I bought a bunch of them, cones, bases and cable stands and I'm trying them out in different positions. I think isolation products is worth trying in your own system and see what the result is, but also be careful that it might not always be an improvement to your liking.

I've been catching up in 2 of my favourite WBF threads today, the Horizon and the Taiko threads, unfortunately these threads are not healthy for me as they create dreams and cravings that cannot be fulfilled, so every now and then I have to take a break from reading them to not go insane... ;)...

Hmmm, does this indicate that also non-volume controlled B3's will have this front?
  27. VoicesInMyHead

    LampizatOr Baltic 3

I'm sorry to say but you will not be able to fit a Baltic 3 in 22cm shelf space. I have 28cm and I think that's tight, you would want to leave some room for ventilation and also being able to change tubes while not be limited to the smallest tubes/rectifier you can find. I had an Amber 3 before...

    LampizatOr Baltic 3

hm, I wonder if the display is just put on the current frontpanel, or is the frontpanel/case different as well? I have owned 5 Lampi's over the years and they've all more or less looked the same, I wouldn't complain about a more Pacific looking case, but in the smaller form factor of the B3...

It works fine using e80cc tubes with the low-gain setting.

    LampizatOr Baltic 3

oh, that's a nice change and upgrade! I never really liked that old display, and while the Pacific display is really nice the ring button feels very classic LampizatOr, this marks for quite a change in design trickling downwards in the hierarchy. Personally I'm using an integrated amp and don't...
