CH Precision C1 vs Chord DAVE with M Scaler ?

I should also add that I wouldn't infer that because you like one component from CH (or any other manufacturer for that matter) that you will like everything else. That is especially true when you cross to a different component category. For example, in the CH line-up, I think the L1 is...

CH Precision C1 vs Chord DAVE with M Scaler ?

I've spent some time with CH C1 and found it pretty dull tbh. I'm aware that others rave about it, which suggests it is highly sensitive to set-up, use of X1, etc., but still feels expensive for the price. My experience of Chord is much further down the chain (Qutest & Hugo 1&2), so prob not...

    TAS visits Shunyata Research!

I once had the privilege of hosting Caelin at my home to listen to my system. Nervous to say the least but he was very complementary and fascinating to spend time with

    Pilium Audio in action-

Yes, although not blown away. Somewhat harsh at times, which surprised me given amps. Suspect this was room & set-up though. Has maintained my interest in panels tho!

    Pilium Audio in action-

No - went to listen to them on the end of Gryphon Mephisto, but decided too much of a risk to buy them on the chance they'd work with Heisenbergs and in my room

    Pilium Audio in action-

As many here have said, only way to decide on a speaker is home demo. There are Stenheim now in the UK, but not sure what is available demo-wise. Am interested myself. Others in that space would be Wilson Benesch Omnium or Eminence, and Gobel Devin, both of which are demo-able in the UK.

Do you have any thoughts as to how Pilium compares to Audionet Stern & Heisenberg?

    Pilium Audio in action-

Very interested to hear what you decide re: speakers. Magico and Stenheim are quite different in how they portray the music IMO. Am not familiar with Matt Vector? Can be a challenge getting home demos of these big high-end speakers here in the UK.

The cars you have loved, or are in love with. Tell us your car history and what each one taught you

I actually owned the TVR when I still lived in London, and did a tour of the tunnels early one Sunday morning with the local TVR car club - was epic! The B5 came close as a supercharged V8, and the RS6 was good for a turbo'd V8, but ultimately the TVR takes the prize! You could probably...

How Good is the Rega Aura Phono Stage Vs Higher End Phono Stages

Kudos on the P1. If my experience with the L1 pre-amp is anything to go by, adding an X1 is worth about 20% increase in performance. Great headphone set-up btw - am pondering Susvara to go with a recently acquired Cavalli amp. Out of interest, where abouts are you based?

Information on Stern and Heisenberg Ancillaries: What are Folks Using?

Heisenberg are definitely the star of the pairing. I think the Stern is very good rather than exceptional, and can probably be bettered at the price, or matched for cheaper.

    Audionet Heisenberg's

I should also say that Emile @ Taiko has experience of TotalDAC drivers / Stern / Heisenberg / Alsyvox, so worth speaking to him and/or digging through his posts.

    Audionet Heisenberg's

I had a TotalDAC driver to try for a while and tried the following configurations: Lampi GG2 -> MFA Silver passive pre -> TotalDAC driver -> Heisenbergs Lampi GG2 -> TotalDAC driver -> MFA Silver passive pre -> Heisenbergs Lampi GG2 -> Stern -> Heisenbergs My Lampi didn't have volume control...

    Alsyvox planars...prepare to sell your Magico's, YG's, Wilson's, Cessaro's. Maggie's, and all others!!

Me too. If we get a pair of Alsyvox in the UK, it might be possible. BTW I wouldn't call Heisenbergs cold - far from it.

Taiko vs Antipodes vs LDMS vs everyone else... who should I choose?

One question I'd have is the combination of a top-end server combined with the m-scaler. Both the LDMS and Taiko can upscale to pretty much whatever you want (not sure about Antipodes), so not sure the role the m-scaler would play.

Audio Retreat - a real UK dealer?

Not heard of them which surprises me. Also find it hard to believe someone has that amount of stock in the UK (and on an industrial estate in Gateshead), which is a pretty small market. Prices seem too good to be true as well. Would love to be proved wrong, but looks suspicious.

Small but mighty? Nagra, Aavik, others?

Good point re: Nagra driving the Magicos. Audionet Humboldt would be my suggestion for a one-box amp. If that's too big, a CH I1, which could potentially do the digital side as well.

Small but mighty? Nagra, Aavik, others?

I had a top-end active Naim system and moved away around 5 years ago. I sold the lot and started again. The main driver was getting tired of the Naim sound, but there was an appeal of a simpler system. I don't regret it for one minute and have enjoyed the journey to where I am today (check...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

Ha - I have pondered this a lot. Hard to think it was the Mephisto given its class-A operation. I know nothing about SMC pre-amps, so could be them. It was def more noticeable on the digital, so would be the obvious culprit, but not completely absent on the analogue. As such, has left me...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

Four benefits as I hear it, ranked from obvious to less obvious rather than by benefit: (1) lower frequency extension (2) adds impact to the bass - WB speakers use multiple small cones for bass which in my experience gives less bass impact so the improvement here is quite noticeable (3) creates...

    Another Apogee thread? You bet!

I spent some time yesterday listening to my first pair of Apogees. These were updated Divas, with drivers redone by True Sound Works and the crossovers redone by Reality. The rest of the system was Gryphon Mephisto, SMc VRE-1 pre, and either MSB DAC V / transport or SME 20 / DS Audio (analogue...
