I have heard many Bryston power amps on Magnepan's, and I always wonder, why does Magnepan use them in demos?
They are as cold sounding on Magnepan's, as they are on other speakers.
This is not in agreement with Bryston owners, and many others, who must like cold sound, and think it is...
Netflix and other streaming services have worse than CD quality sound.
I guess most people have mediocre sound bar playback audio for home theater, and I understand they...
I measure from the listening spot to the speaker. The laser is at the listening spot.
For verticle alignment measure two spots on the speaker. One at the top, and one near the bottom. Keep the laser in a fixed position.
The laser device can measure angles with a trigonometry calculation...
A big boon for speaker alignment!
"Aim" red dot on speaker, and press measure button.
Accuracy to 1/16 of an inch.
Perfect for "hard to align" Magnepan's and other speakers.
Set "head to tweeter"...
As far as Jim Smith goes he did bash vinyl in his quarter notes supplementary news letter.
I do not agree with his view, and feel he and Paul just do not have the patience for turntable/arm setup.
Turntable/arm/catridge setup take more time to fully optimize than what can be done in a few...
A lot of very expensive equipment and Peter loves the sound!
However, the ultimate in playback sound are obviously limited by the room IMO.
Sitting up against the rear wall, a fireplace behind the speakers, and a piano, and large furniture in a small square room, is a no no.
I like to listen alone every Friday and Saturday nite......in the dark or dim room.
Rarely with others, because you need a person with similar taste, that keeps quiet during the music, and talks only between albums or songs.
Other listeners in the...
Does anybody know anyone that actually bought the 30.7s?
I guess nobody here has heard these, at length, in a home?
After being for sale for a year, and next to none sold, could the 30.7 be a success? Not IMO!
The new gimbal VPI arm makes the turntable a big unknown!
I do not see them selling 400 units at $15,000.
How many units of the $30,000 VPI direct turntables have they sold to date????
I would like to compare it to my full blown TNT III with SDS and VPI stand from 1999.
I have never been fond of adding subs to the larger (6ft and up) Magnepans. There has always been a soundstaging disconnect, transitioning from a tall bass image, to a short box bass image.
Perhaps those that use subs and a Magnepans, are not after lower bass, but more “slam”, and just do not...
Have listed to the 6 foot Magnepans most every day since 1978.
Started with the IIa and GAS (Great American Sound Company) amplification, then IIIa and 3.6 in 10 different rooms.
After much speaker positioning, furniture moving, and listening spot changes, I only got great sound in two rooms...
I agree with Ralph on the use of Pro balanced interconnects, with amps and preamps, that "adhere to the design standard" are the way to go. The question remains which manufactures meet the standard, and which, "fudge" the balanced connection. I believe Pass Labs meets the balanced design...
I have listened to the 6 Foot Magnepans (IIa, IIIa, 3.6) speakers since 1978 in a dozen different rooms.
Most say you need a big room. Not in my opinion. I get the best presentation, and lowest bass in a smaller room. I like to sit no more than 8 feet from the speaker with the front wall 5 feet...
Is Mad Floyd's choice of absurdly priced equipment out of line with most members of this site???
Are you crazy for using one subwoofer aimed at the rear, wall away from the listener?
Is Peter crazy for buying used $15k cartridges that are probably past their time, and thinking they sound like...
I am sorry for calling you an idiot. It was out of line.
However I do feel that you have limited experience with alternative types of less than super expensive equipment. You need to get out, and hear many more properly setup systems.
Have you any listening experience with tall...
I just thought removing the prices after years was strange. I like Reno Hi-Fi, but they, like Nelson Pass are not gods.
Look at the stupid blue meters that can not be shut off and look like blue headlights in the dark.
Those meters just sell upgrades if you believe that if a slight movement...
It is nice to look on their site to see used and demo prices, and what is available at a glance.
My local dealer's website shows used, demo, and sale items, with prices.
That is standard practice on most all websites that sell direct, but not manufacturers.
Keeps the customer informed on...
