Did anyone listen to the new TOTL Esoteric gear : P1X/D1X combo ? Can’t find much feedback yet. Alex

    Antipodes CX+EX

Hello It has been around 6months I am living with this combo and I am enjoying it very much ! It replaced a Melco mk2 ( and I had Aurender N10 before the Melco). It is very flexible in terms of software ( Roon, UPNP server, HQ Player, Squeezelite etc...) and in terms of storage as you can put...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hello I understand all the development and the fine tuning of the Extreme have been done using R2R Dacs and most of the listening session described in the thread have also been done using R2R Dacs ( and top Tier ones...). Any experiences with the Extreme on non R2R DAC ? Thanks Alex

Chord Hugo TT2 dac and Hugo M Scaler

On my side I am also using Habst BNC cables. I admit I did not make any comparison with other cables on the Chord combo. ( I did comparison on dCS and was satisfied with them vs oyaide, nordost, acrolink, vovox). Footers- wise, sorry I did not invest at all (yet) on that part. I have cheapo...

Chord Hugo TT2 dac and Hugo M Scaler

More subtlety and nuance with dCS. Also percussion instruments and cymbals were more incisive . In terms of transparency and soundstage on par maybe even a bit better for Chord. ( not a strict apple to apple comparison as I could not use the same digital output of my different sources and so...

Chord Hugo TT2 dac and Hugo M Scaler

I am jumping in as I currently have a M-Scaler, a Dave and a TT2. And I used to have the dCS Vivaldi stack ( but the transport unfortunately which is sensational). Don't get me wrong, I did not switch from dCS to Chord because the sound quality was better but because 1) in my far from perfect...

    active loudspeakers

Yes I agree it should sound different but no way for me to test the full active version... The semi active demo has been done with the same preamp/ amp I am using (Accuphase) so it is giving me a better idea. The full active is tempting as it's a all in one with the pros and cons. As I have...

    active loudspeakers

Thanks for your feedback. I listened to them twice (the semi active model ) with different gear and different room . I was a bit disappointed after the first listening ( upper midrange and HF a bit too forward. Consequently, unforgiving with average recording ). It was much better the second...

The 1st SGM Server EVO Edition in Hong Kong

On the software side,is it still possible not to use Roon ? (as I have a Qobuz account) If I remember correctly SGM2015 could be used with another software than Roon. Alex

The 1st SGM Server EVO Edition in Hong Kong

Thanks for your reply. Actually my set up is a bit complex as I am going through a trinnov room optimizer which doesn't have any usb input but with AES and Ethernet input. At the same time I guess I can import convolution filter in the SGM ? (And then skip entirely the trinnov processor )

The 1st SGM Server EVO Edition in Hong Kong

Hello It has been a long time I was watching for the SGM server and this upgrade is definitely checking my boxes as I was looking for extra digital outputs ! Do you consider USB being the best output or AES and Ethernet are at the same level ? In terms of files resolution i guess non usb...

    DCS Vivaldi

All my files are transferred to the Melco. My Nas is used as a backup only ,not used any longer during music playback. For NB vs Upsampler comparison : - for the upsampler part this is not totally comparable as NB can only downsample if I remember correctly. Upsampling is bringing more...

    DCS Vivaldi

Hello I can't comment on the Innuos as I have never tried it ( but I would like to ). I have a Melco which is providing many similar features ( but no Roon,no software ) and compared to the Synology NAS I was using before it is providing much more dynamics and clarity. I had the NB on...

    DCS Vivaldi

Actually I have the clock already ! For Sacd I have a limited collection ( around 100) compared to CDs. I believe Esoteric products have wordclock inputs as well. How would you compare Scarlatti transport vs Vivaldi ? and even if not 100% comparable Scarlatti transport vs Vivaldi upsampler...

    DCS Vivaldi

Hi all After now a bit more time with my dcs gear I would like to share with everyone that I am still very happy ! Music listening is so enjoyable ! Some further remarks : - Chord Dave is a very good DAC. Feeded by the upsampler this is not a night and day difference vs the vivaldi. - I...

    DCS Vivaldi

AES and clock cables were the box cables so nothing fancy. All my power cables are custom made using acrolink cable (7n) and furutech connectors (pretty good quality but not TOTL) DCS units were plugged to the wall.If I keep them they will be plugged to my Isotek Sigma. Alex

So let me give a bit more details about my listening tests and my gear set up: Server used through Ethernet output = Melco N1 / Preamp = Accuphase C2850/Power Amp = Accuphase A70 / Speakers = Vivid Audio G3. Current DAC = Chord DAVE - Test 1 : NB plugged to Melco / NB plugged to my Trinnov...
