It’d be nice if Aqua could share their i2s protocol with Emile for direct connection

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Thanks for the fb guys. My preference leans towards a solid state single box implementation, so maybe TotalDac and Aqua would best suit given their reasonable price points.

Esotar, perhaps you can tell us a bit about the various dacs used by the owners? My Extreme should arrive next month and I will need a new dac.

Bali really is a lovely place and the weather is rather nice this time of year. Enjoy!

Aqua Formula - new upgrade, retrofittable!

Sorry I don’t know Bob (and this will also vary according to regional voltage) but would recommend taking a value @30% larger than fitted as the SR fuses can blow quicker than generic ones with start up surge.

Aqua Formula - new upgrade, retrofittable!

Thanks for clarifying Larry. My reason for asking is that Aqua upgraded the transformers which convert RCA to XLR output, so it seems that the other aspects changed have been pretty worthwhile in their own right.

Great news and I look forward to receiving mine at Emile’s convenience :)

Aqua Formula - new upgrade, retrofittable!

Larry, out of interest do you use rca or xlr output? Recommend SR Blue fuse, as others have done also, and it is located inside that little green box on pcb next to iec inlet internally. You should achieve similar gains to the new analogue board.

    Bocchino sablon in da house!

Tang, many of the observations here on my cables have been about the delta given by simply changing only the plug (mostly from NCF or KLEI) to Bocchino. I guess to an extent YMMV with other brands of cable depending on how transparent and neutral that particular cable is. Bocchino typically...

    Bocchino sablon in da house!

Pang, I sell mostly rca cables with the Bocchino platinum plated plug. This has proven to be a very popular product in systems of many different topologies and levels. Wrt the xlr cable, the Bocchino silver BAXLR plug did not give a significant uptick over my usual Oyaide Focus xlr plugs and I...

    USB cable suggestions

Christoph, we are having this conversation today because you have chosen to put down my product in order to promote your friend's brand. You claim to be 'just a good customer’ however in my experience good customers do not possess multiple examples of usb cables which they are keen to run...

    USB cable suggestions

I think we both know you are a bit more than a happy customer Christoph. I have no problem with you selling stuff but you have crossed the rubicon from my perspective today.

The sonic benefits of an external crossover. A discussion.

Tao, another tweak which is both effective and free is to bypass the binding posts and use them to clamp the wires together rather than act in series. The photos in this link should give readers some ideas - www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=107044.0 Whilst not XO specific, non magnetic brass...

Aqua Formula - new upgrade, retrofittable!

sb06, I would presume so given that Aqua are happy for field updates but you should confirm with the factory / distributor. My customer certainly did not indicate there being any complications.

Aqua Formula - new upgrade, retrofittable!

The friend of a customer in Miami recently upgraded to this new board. Cost was @$1200 and this is the fb he gave me I've forgot to comment that the new 2019 analog boards looks physically identical to the old revision, just a few different resistors and caps, but the rest looks same. SQ is...

SOtM sNH-10G Network Switches x2 : The NEW KING of USB/Network Gadget Setup

My Hynes SR4 took 6 weeks to arrive and works very nicely on the modem / router in producing a richer less grainy sound. There are a couple of fairly well known mods - tying dc negative to ground (assuming you don’t create a ground loop) and using a line (X) cap.

For you horn guys: What kind of compression driver are you using for high frequencies? Why that choice (if you know...)

Tao, given the choice I would put full Dueland caps into the LM but best to check dimensions and space available. Iirc they use 0.47uf. They really are fantastic caps, my faves, and once sampled it is hard to accept lesser specimens. Are you familiar with the humble hifi cap test blog? Is a...

For you horn guys: What kind of compression driver are you using for high frequencies? Why that choice (if you know...)

Good work Tao, it’s always pleasing to see people’s diy efforts being rewarded so handsomely! Although the Duelund bypasses should give you a nice uptick here, will the leads be sufficiently long to reach around those large evo caps?!? Could always open up the LM and use them to bypass the...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I've not had any issues with core functionality (mail / safari / excel / word) on either my iMac, which admittedly has only recently been declared vintage, nor my mother's 2008 iMac which fell off their radar years ago. That said, both machines have ssd and extra ram. Roon is the perfect...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I think it is fair to say that digital products continue to evolve faster than analogue ones. Apple bring out new models every year, yet few of us feel the need to slavishly replace our existing ones and I happen to be typing this from a 2011 iMac. A sensible approach in choosing products with a...

Can one find realism in box speakers that cost less than $150K after experiencing dynamics of horns and horn-type speakers?

A question for our resident speaker experts - where does ‘waveguide’ end and ‘horn loading’ begin? Have been chatting a little with Bill of late about various horn speakers and we never quite nailed this one down. Does an AG Duo Mezzo, for example, have horn bass or is it just an extended waveguide?
