Music start delay on Reference DAC

Hello everyone,

Recently got the reference DAC and using the ProUSB interface. When using Roon from my music server (Antipodes K50) there is a delay to the start of the music where the first note or two or three from the song does not play. I do not have this issue with the Diamond V or the Pacific. Anyone else experience this and have any suggestions? (It happens on redbook and dsd)

Did you find out what’s causing it?

Not yet. I guess other msb users arent experiencing this. I am wondering if it is a buffering thing.

Check the resync delay in device setup...try 100ms

@sbnx I have the same issue local or streaming (Qobuz), as I recall. This is Taiko Extreme to Reference dac with ProUSB. Is the resync setting in the dac or source? Did that work for you? Thanks guys...

Thanks @bryans I was heading there today to poke around. Aside from the little hiccup, things sound terrific. I'm all fiber over here, with a dedicated audio-only fiber service. Hope all good on your end. Mark

Thanks everyone. The resync fixed the problem. I set it to 500ms per the msb link provided above.

How did you go with Vince on the delay? I’m also using the Taiko and have this issue…

...good reminder. Let's pull him in! @Vince-Galbo can you guide us on the missing second-or so before play begins? I am not using Roon, but TAS software on the Extreme. ProISL/USB. Thanks for any insight you may offer.

@Levitator thanks for hovering over this thread. I'm only a month or so into the Ref and did not check for new updates yet. I am still on 28.21. I'll have to check how to update. Thanks again!

No worries - you will need to switch to Roon within TAS to play the firmware file as it needs to be played in a ‘bit perfect’ format. I just did the update and there does seem to my ears to be a little more space in the music. The firmware update also fixed the delay issue

Maybe the delay is what MSB referred to as a switching issue that was fixed in the 29 firmware update...

...I don't use Roon, so Ed popped into my network yesterday with his credentials and "we" made the firmware update. I don't notice any specific, tangible improvements over a few hours of listening, FWIW.

The short missing data gap at the beginning of tracks however, remains. I think I will need to revisit this when TAS is retired and XDMS debuts; that may allow adding an "empty segment" at the start of tracks. I can see the track has started in the player, but MSB hasn't yet received or locked onto data for that brief time.

We'll see...

Hey @MarkusBarkus - I just wanted to check if you still have this delay issue with the MSB DAC? I have been using another DAC for a while and just switched back to the MSB and seem to be missing the first 1-2 secs of the song - I’m using XDMS with the Extreme so not sure whether it’s an issue on the MSB side or Taiko. Thought I’d check in and see what you found…
