Also compared to the turntable. Played vinyl at the same time as Roon and switched between sources with the input button on my preamp remote. I need plenty more listening between different recordings and formats, DSD, etc, but initially I would edge the clarity of imaging and wideness of soundstage to the TRP. Mids to the turntable. I always thought the bass of the GA was a little weaker when compared to the turntable, but things seem much closer with the TRP. I'll readily admit my ears are much more used to the turntable than this new DAC, so will need more time comparing. It's going to be tough...

Hm I think you should bear in mind that no DAC is ever going to sound like a good to great TT, though Lampis get closer than most.

I am not saying I prefer analogue in the long term - I use it way less. But they are just different beasts. But when the vinyl is good the TT sometimes blows my mind;) But when the vinyl is bad, it's a joke.

Just making a point I think we should steer clear of in depth digital versus analogue discussions here.

Agreed on all points. I too do not want to get into a digital vs analogue "debate" here, but quite a few people on here also have turntables and it makes for an interesting comparison for those of us who have both.

My TT is my point of reference for when I experiment with or change DAC's. Especially as the preamp makes it so easy to switch between the two input sources.

leftside, you might consider keeping an eye out on eBay for a pair Tesla EL51's or contact Lukas in the Czech Republic, luke@dv.cz. If you go back a few pages, you'll find a report or two on those. Whole other level.
Ok thanks.

Today I finally received my EL34 to EL51 adapters from the Chinese source. I was very anxious to try the EL51 power tubes but found the wire too short to rach the top of the tube. What is the purpose of the wire (power, ground, something else? ). I can't seem to find any detailed information on tube adapters. Here is a picture.

:mad::mad: anode voltage supply. Heard from few friends that they also received short ones but still manageable to reach and place the cap on top.
Demand a new ones with proper length of wire.

Do not attempt to adjust that cap when the tube is plugged into the DAC. You can get a very nasty electric shock (well you can with tube amps that take tubes with these types of adapters - might not be so bad with a DAC - but I wouldn't want to risk it). If you have kids or pets, make sure to keep them well away.

I'd also want those adapters in black to match the tube bases. But I'm a bit OCD like that :)

Just picked up an Innuous Statement which should be here soon to run with TRP. Will see if this improves on Roon Nucleus/Lumin U1 Mini combo.

That sucks. How long did it take to arrive after ordering?

How is FF working for you in your system so far?
FF and I didn't really warm up to eachother
Welcome here on WBF, Urs

Fugly Frank’s alive now. It reproduces less heights and a smaller soundstage than GZ480, Marconi or Acme but it sounds very natural, has a warm timbre but it’s not blurry sounding. Perhaps it isn’t totally wrong to say Franky’s RK2018’s brother from a different daddy. It sounds less neutral and more organic than the RK but has the same meat at the bone. Dr. Henry’s son is a good partner for singer songwriter or acoustic guitar stuff. I like it, especially for headphone (Focal Utopia) or slippers and pipe sessions.

LD offers a very wide range of servers price wise and is open to discuss options

I just engaged Lucas to build me a server based upon recommendations from you, Golum and Alrainbow. Lucas is quite busy these days, (probably from members of this forum :)) so delivery will be middle to end of November. I am really looking forward to it.

I can't believe I am going from my desktop PC to a standalone music server that costs more than I paid for my GA TRP. Golum assures me I will thank him later. It was between this and an Antipodes CX/EX combo. I think I made the right choice. ;)

The only thing I didn't get that I still might from LD was the wire upgrade to OFC solid copper or silver wire. Would that make that much of a difference?

Very good decision! He builds great servers, extremely happy with mine and as Christoph said, his customer care is outstanding.

Don't want to take this off-topic but in terms of ethernet products, I received today an EMO Systems EN-30 I ordered based upon Alrainbow's mentioning it. It does a very nice job of making everything sound more like real musicians playing in my room and it was less than $200. Works nicely with my SOtM switch.

Guys who ever needs adapters from El51 to El34 tubes this is the only place where you can source them at the moment (as far as i know), as they are custom made for us:
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/313123187191

Cheers,
G

Any other sources for this adapter out there? This eBay seller doesn't have them anymore.

Send him email - i know he did few to Al and few to other guys recently. Advise him to make proper length of anode wire...
I haven't seen anybody else doing those...

Here’s their website: http://www.ak985.com/19-adapter-socket (it doesn’t show the EL51; that’s apparently made on request). As Golum suggested, send an email. Was slow to respond earlier during covid, but maybe better now? And if you’re in the States, make that clear, as with me he initially got it confused with Canada re pricing, perhaps because he has an eBay account there.

I've been lurking on this thread for a while now. I appreciate the wealth of information from @Golum and other members who have gone through the effort and expense of tube rolling their GA TRP and sharing the results. Per this thread and others, it doesn't seem like the Shuguang GZ480 rectifiers are obtainable anymore. Has there been a consensus on the next best option?

As I suggested yesterday on the head-fi forum, there are some choices that depend on your sound preferences, ranging in one (or more) dimension from cool or neutral to various versions of warm. “Best” is always listener dependent, including with the EL51, which didn’t get everyone’s vote. For example, some swear by the KR 5u4g RK, which is neutral and highly detailed, while I consider it aggravating and unlistenable for any length of time and much prefer the USAF 596 or even a Fivre. There is some discussion here of differences in recent pages, as well as lots over on the head-fi Dubstep Girl thread.

I'm going to purchase the ones you suggested and some of the others mentioned in this thread and start my tube rolling journey. Thanks for the guidance!
