Just found this clip of Melvin Taylor in top form. He's completely in the zone, working his brilliance the whole clip. After a 3 minute warm up of a jazzy blues, he goes into "Blue Jean Blues" and incredible Hendrix-esque solos.
I have seen Melvin live over 100 times and this is really top notch. Wow!!!
And for music buffs, the bassist is Felton Crews, who played with miles davis. the drummer is no slouch either.
Check out Mel Brown's first few albums. These should equally appeal to blues fans, soul jazz guys, and funk fans. Here's a great tune that showcases Mel Brown's talents:
Herb Ellis is on the second guitar, on the left, for this tune... Pleasant surprise! Herb channels a most incredible late 60s, guitar-god solo. All out emotional burst, Jerry Garica style... Knowing him as a jazz guitarist, I never imagined Herb had this in him!
And another gem from the same album:
Too bad Mel Brown wasn't well known. What an incredible talent
