State-of-the-Art Recordings of Classical Works (SACDs)

It's unfortunate that Exton SACDs do not get much exposure and coverage outside Japan (and Asia). The overall recordiing quality is usually very good to great. My favorite Exton is probably Duo di Basso. A couple of Mahler symphonies were also quite good.

Differences between NAS and dedicated music servers such as Melco and Innuos

Hi thank you for your explanation, and Melco is essentially acting like a switch makes perfect sense. My dilemma is this - I do not stream music via internet at all; the WiFi router Melco is connected to (plus CH P1 phono) is NOT connected to the internet at all, so the router is more like a...

Differences between NAS and dedicated music servers such as Melco and Innuos

Hi, have you tried a switch between Melco and the streamer? Was the switch beneficial? Thanks.

Differences between NAS and dedicated music servers such as Melco and Innuos

you are welcome! Oh I just remembered one more thing. I never tried the top of the line Melco with internal SSD drive, but I did try an external SSD connected to Melco's "Expansion" USB, and SSD sounded nowhere near as good as the internal HDD. Can't explain why, but I asked another friend...

Differences between NAS and dedicated music servers such as Melco and Innuos

Hi ava1962. Sorry my comments below might be long but I went through similar situation as you are facing now. I currently have C1.2 and Melco N1Z (5T HDD version). Never tried Innuos in my system so I can't comment on it. Prior to my first Melco (N1A 4T HDD), I streamed music files via a QNAP...

Xlr vs rca phono (tonearm) cable

Do cartridges output balance signals? I thought because there's no reference to ground so by definition that's not balanced? However, all 3 inputs I use on my P1 are all RCA. Have not tried XLR at all. 2 of the phono cables are part of the Shroeder and Linn arms. The last arm (Graham...

The CH Precision firmware upgrades released on 29 Aug 2023

Whenever there's a new firmware update I just do it. Without another player that has not been updated it's hard to compare A/B/A. If I didn't hear anything negative with firmware updates I am happy.

    CH Precision C1.2

To me personally, vinyl and digital playbacks are equally valid, and with the current state of the art digital, it's just a different presentation. There are certain things that're easier to achieve through vinyl (or digital) playback, and if one's priorities lean towards one medium's...

    CH Precision C1.2

Thanks for posting the link CK. I read it this morning and it certainly contained a lot of great photos on the process it took to practically made it into a new DAC. I spoke to my local CHP representative about the number of boards and the amount of work to complete the upgrade, and to me, the...

    CH Precision C1.2

Personally I didn't care who reviewed C1.2 for Stereophile; if the review generated more interests (especially positive interests) for CH Precision it's a win for CHP and all current users. I ordered the upgrade a week ago and I can't wait to send my unit in.

    Switch for streaming from NAS

Hi Gunnar thank you for the message. I have the current N1ZH (with 5TB HDD) which replaced the first generation N1A. I haven't tried any switches because I thought there wouldn't be a need for it if I have a direct Ethernet connection to the DAC. From your descriptions it is beneficial to...

    Switch for streaming from NAS

Dear all, my question might sound dumb but I am going to ask anyway... When I play files - Melco NAS to C1.1 via Ethernet, since one of the main reasons I went with Melco was their NAS have 2 Ethernet ports, one connects directly to the DAC (C1.1) and the other to a WiFi router for controling...
