I am a new TL 7.5 Series III owner and I am bowled over by the technology and the all around excellence of this preamp.
Of course the sonics are the end goal, but they're here, in my opinion. I am glad, it's the best I've had in my system.
I expected excellence, and I haven't been disappointed...
As far as I know, you're well advised to replace the caps in these many of these old amps you folks are mentioning. If there is any hum In the amp whatsoever, even if you almost didn't know it was there at all, replacing the filter caps (mains caps, power caps, the BIG electrolytics) on your...
So update- I got the KT120 Ref 610t as well as a ref 5.
Right after I bought the Ref 5, a ref anniversary came along and I was tempted. Since the Ref 5 is still in the box (and a cleaner one I haven't seen, not even at the dealer) I didn't upgrade to the Ref 40. (Hey, I've retired recently...
Ok- I agree it's all listener preference, but -my preference- is the inside. It enhances image sharpness. Outside tweeters provide a wider soundstage which isn't necessary for my room and me, where the inside tweeter positioning gives a sharper and more delineated image which to me is...
Yeah regarding the Veyron crash, the first thought that went through my head after seeing the video was that the car had obviously been crashed for the insurance money. Interesting to have that thought confirmed after all this time.
For the record, I've got no elevators in my system ... Yet... But it's ever evolving. I do find that in Minnesota, where winters are very dry, static charges can affect amps and speaker wire that are on the ground. Static can build up in the wire and you can often hear it, especially shortly...
I picked up the Ref 610t with the KT-120 upgrade... it'll be a while before I can hear them because my house is completely torn up, but hopefully someday soon, I'll be able to hear them!
Sorry for the incomplete info! I am about to upgrade the preamp, and am looking at:
ARC (Ref Anniversary or Ref 5... but the added cost of the 5 SE would seem to me to warrant an upgrade to the Anniversary... Which would almost seem to warrant the upgrade to the Ref 10.... Perhaps Ref 10...
Anyone heard both in the same system?
I am a Wotan owner who has a chance to purchase a pair of Audio Research Ref 610t locally.
Should I? Why or why not?
I have used the MB450 (I had three of them, traded last weekend, plus cash, for Wotans. I miss them very much already! The only way I could part with them is that I had recently purchased a pair of MB300 previously, and that made it bearable... But I realize that selling the 450s was a huge...
I have tried winged C SED and tung sol 6550's in MB450 and MB300s.
I can say that tung sol 6550s are awesome, the new ones paired with VTLs have decay that is sublime, and the sound is equal to the very best tube amps available, at any price.
