Question.I bought a "ECC40 instead 6SN7 tube converter adapter" from Ebay a number of months ago. I am just getting around to using it and have a question. Does the glass "nipple" on the side of the tube line up with the black mark made on the 9 pin socket? Thanks!

My own experience is that I have no way of knowing how a given tube will sound until it is in my own system and has a few hours on it. In many cases it is a difference in "flavor" and not really "better" or "worse". I do use personal accounts to add tubes to my short list to try but I am...

Can anyone point me to the converter for using the VT76 tubes in the 12AU7 position?

Welcome. Welcome. The short version is that this is a great DAC and tube rolling is mostly a matter of personal taste and system compatibility. You might want to use the factory tubes to break in the DAC and get used to it's stock sound. While doing that, read through the older posts before...

Thanks. I wonder if the adapter has resistors to strap it to triode mode to work in the 6SN7 position.

So this is electrically equivalent to a 6SN7? Is it a dual triode and do you need two per side for balanced?

I would be interested in hearing more about your subjective appraisal of the VT-76. In reading about them it seems that their specs are not really an identical match for half of a 6SN7. I think that they have less gain and a greater plate resistance. I have a pair of them that have been...

I listened to the ECC40 Tungsrams yesterday. I let them run during the morning and checked in from time to time. They check a lot of boxes for build quality, thick glass and nice internal support rods. My first impression is that they sound very good. Mine seems to be a bit weighted toward the...

Thanks. Hoping to fire them up today but did not want to literally "fire them up"! ;)

I received my adapters from China for the ECC40 Tungsrams a few weeks ago and just received the tubes from the Ukraine today. I want to make sure that I am inserting the tube into the adapter correctly. Unlike 12A*7s, these tubes have evenly spaced pins so the insertion orientation is not...

I think that it is an electrical equivalent to a 6SL7 and predates it. It has more gain than a 6SN7.

    The rolling starts to get a bit crazy. I have probably ~12 rectifiers., ~12 6SN7 + variants, and ~10 12AU7s and compatibles. This calculates out to 12 x 12 x 10 = 1440 possible combinations!

I received my AZ1 from Poland yesterday. It is built like a tank. I always worry about shipping 90 year old tubes but this one is very solid. The box looked like it had been kicked through the goal by Messi but all is well! The adapter came from China as most do but is well made also. Although...
