    Florida Audio Expo 2020

Great to see accolades for VSA from the audiophile press these last few years but I found this posting from Lukasz Fikus to be especially gratifying given he's an actual designer of high end audio gear and has no reason to post these comments other than sincere appreciation for what VSA and VAC...

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

So 1.1mV/0.38mV = 2.89 And 39 ohm/13 ohm (nominal) = 3.0 This seems very reasonable to me as both resistance of the wire and voltage output are linear functions (of wire length and # of coils). Cheers, Joe

Hi Tima; Not sure what you mean by "Finest Fidelity" - I'm referring to Artisan Fidelity - see here Artisan Fidelity Here's a bit of background in regards to the impedance issue: In essence an MC cart works on the same principles as a transformer. In a transformer a signal is applied to a...

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

Not sure - I got the information through Christopher Thornton at Artisan Fidelity who said he got it from the US distributor.

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

I got the same 13 ohm response from the US distributor but it's hard to believe that can be correct - especially in light of the high output of this cartridge. I then asked the person I bought it from ( who is on this forum) - who lives in Europe - and he got the answer I gave in my reply (I...

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

Correct - mine has 0.9mV output and has 36 ohm impedance - I believe the normal 1.1mV output carts are 39 ohms.

    A visit to Mountain Joe's

Thanks for visiting Brian - it was a lot of fun listening to some of my favorite tracks & recordings with you and getting your impressions of my system and the Master Sig in particular. My system has indeed changed a lot since your last visit and it was great to share it with you. Cheers, Joe

    Ypsilon VPS 100 Phono Stage

Don't miss this opportunity to own Michael Fremer's reference phono stage in excellent condition. These rarely come up for sale on the used market as it is the last phono stage you will want. I am the original owner and this unit is just over a year old - barely broken in. There a three minor...

Yes, it was Tang’s comment that got me going in the right direction.

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

No need - I removed the screws entirely and ran without them. The copper mat is heavy enough that it’s not going anywhere. The screws were indeed the problem! I played one of the most problematic records and it ran without issue with the mat screws removed. The odd thing is the screws are...

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

You just made me think of something - my TT has a copper platter held in place with two screws near the mid-point of the platter. Perhaps the magnet is being pulled by the screws as they pass by assuming they are magnetic. That would explain why it only happens on the second or third tracks...

    The Colibri “Master Signature”

I believe I'm one of those three you mention. In my case, the problem has been with the cart bottoming out on certain passages, even with perfectly flat records. I thought at first that the suspension on my cart was damaged and sent it back for a checkup. When it was returned, it exhibited the...

I guess it's very different in Europe - I sent mine in for a suspension tweak and it took almost 4 months to get it back...
