    Degritter ultrasonic record cleaner

Most TDS meters will auto correct for temp, so not surprising to see very small increase in TDS. What is coming off the record surface is, as you've observed, suspended solids. As I always describe to my customers, dissolved solids are like putting table salt, or sugar, in water, it dissolves...

Doctor's Orders-Part Two-The New Listening Room Of Steve Williams

So Steve, was this a purchase made with no prior audition? Any one thing in particular that grabbed your attention? Several great cartridges available, and the Etsuro does not come cheap, so a sizable commitment...

Doctor's Orders-Part Two-The New Listening Room Of Steve Williams

In the picture Steve posted of the cartridge specs and description there is a typo or bad translation, surely the word was supposed to be “thinner“, not “sinner”.

Steve you've got to be thrilled... what I heard up @ Mike's place a couple weeks back -- I think you are in for some long nights of sonic bliss.

Doctor's Orders-Part Two-The New Listening Room Of Steve Williams

Careful when cleaning... don't use any "sinner" solution. I have too much of that around my house, sometimes I get some on me. Good thing my priest is bound by confidentiality!

    High End Audio... Really?

OK, tacking the train a little off the rails... my wife gives me “the look” when I hint at the following: when we get to the point robots are replacing our immigrant slaves hired help, can we just make all the robots look like sexbots! House cleaner—sexbot. Waitress—sexbot. Cashier—sexbot. If...

    High End Audio... Really?

While I appreciate this sentiment, I was once censored on another forum for telling a joke with some curse words in the humor thread. The reason offered was it might be offensive to women who might visit the forum. But lets be honest about the demographic of this hobby, it is significantly...

"How can we ever truly know if we are hearing exactly what is on the recording?"

You lost me @ klavier (harpsicord). I can’t stand that instrument. Argh!

    Millennials, Please Check In!

Funny that... I left Microsoft in 2000 to join a little startup. We made a chip down in Bay area, did the firmware development in Kirkland, WA. A little outfit named Apple noticed what we were doing and the first four generations of the iPod used our chip. Had quite the little skunk-works...

"How can we ever truly know if we are hearing exactly what is on the recording?"

Excellent! Some of these threads are intellectual rabbit holes, and I am as guilty as the next guy for over-thinking the whole damn thing, certainly wrt original thread question. But “a sensuous plane” (love that!) is always my goal, where the music moves me emotionally, and where I can feel it...

"How can we ever truly know if we are hearing exactly what is on the recording?"

No doubt. My amazement is that moving a magnet in a coil of wire (or vice versa) creates a current, and our analog world is one manifestation of this simple law of the universe.

"How can we ever truly know if we are hearing exactly what is on the recording?"

Not really into the digital/analog debate, but you make one hell of a statement after describing listening to live music. The most real source is digital? The musicians weren't playing calculators, they were playing musical instruments. And nuance isn't real? Maybe you're just throwing flames...

Well then, we need a backup copy of Mike's system!

    Orotofon MC Anna Diamond cartridge

Yep, at Mike’s place “just one more cut” is easily followed by “just one more cut.” My recent visit, we ended with a Stevie Ray cut played on the CS Port with the Etsuro cartridge. I think we both were transported to another dimension, ‘cause when it finished we were both gobsmacked! It was so...

"How can we ever truly know if we are hearing exactly what is on the recording?"

If we can get a grant to perform this study, I volunteer to have the recreation of Mike’s system at my place, for one of the five!
