Roon Frustration -Again

I’m using a Bricasti M3 DAC as a Roon endpoint, and a MacMini as a Roon Core. Can I use Squeezelite as the player rather than the Roon app? If so, how? Please refer a link if it’s easier than explaining here.
post in the roon forums they are very helpful there . some really smart folk there to help , i do get non audio sounding answers always try them

hq player has way too many drop down menus and while they matter , there is too much sound changing from album to album .
HQ Player can be set up once and then left alone. And sound changing from album to album is a good sign. We would expect that given all the differences that go into making recordings.

Your correct but if you pay attention to his instructions , he says to try and any as well. his playback I feel sounds the best . but at the cost of complexity if you try what he says to do. unless I'm playing MQA it's set and left . Also jus hates MQA lol says it leaks . Not sure what this means but I'll bet he is honest and correct in his comment .

His instructions don’t talk much about outcomes. Given the number of possible settings it’s easy to understand why. One hoping to get value from HQPlayer should find the settings that best align to their preference. In my case it’s the sinc filters so I now just leave it set at sinc-L. Across all types of music this delivers the same kind of benefits. It’s unfortunate that the UI is a usability disaster but I think it delivers a great bang for the buck.

Yes, write something about SQ there and the hole pack of their stalwart disciples will fall onto you like a plague of locusts :D

Spot on! You nailed it. Roon Community forums are like ASR 2.0. Even worse. For some reason, these types are given carte Blanche from Roon to dominate their forums, and aggressively so. I am a big Roon fan, lifetime subscriber for over five years, but their complete unwillingness to talk anything SQ leaves me scratching my head. And catering to these types, even more so

As someone who has been in this hobby for 35+ years and a user of Roon, I must say the attacks/complaining goes both ways. I have seen people get attacked here just as much as on Roon forums. It just depends on what forum you are on.

Just my $0.02 worth of thoughts.

People have been attacked here about discussing anything pertaining to SQ? I was not aware. What happened and how bad were they attacked?

First off how can I or anyone tell another person about SQ? What sounds good to one person could sound bad to someone else. People like different things. The value Roon brings to one person could be completely different to another.

The next time Roon comes out with an update, just watch the threads. You will hear someone say something about SQ and if someone says the opposite watch what happens. This isn't only for Roon, I'm sure you have seen the discussion on MQA, Tidal, Qobuz, various equipments, etc.

This isn't just happening in forums. Go to a dealer, (if you can find any), chances are you will hear a salesperson try and tell you what you should like. Or what sounds good. I always laugh and tell them I will let them know what sounds good to me.

Nothing you say is wrong. Absolutely right. I agree. But maybe you misunderstood my post? Rather my reply to another post that is. Basically what I was saying is that any claims to SQ changes with Roon is (according to general Roon forums feeling) is null and void, outright hallucinations. Because bits are bits and no streaming software can possibly change the SQ. Key word being “bit perfect “.

Anyways, it does not matter. We all hear for ourselves, nothing else matters. Changing the subject: judging from your profile picture, are you T+A owner?

Yes I have the T+A PS3100HV integrated.

By the way, I personally place a very high value to Roon with regards to my enjoyment of my music. And discovery, information, music management, etc. Nothing to do with SQ. Even if something else sounds better than Roon (Yes, I have choices). Still, I use Roon almost exclusively. Some things matter more than some other things.

You mean “PA”? That’s exactly what I have. The PA 3100 HV integrated amp.

There is a PS, power supply. But PS 3000 HV. No such thing as PS 3100
Sorry fat finger my reply. Yes the PA. I am considering the PS 3000 though. Just not sure when I will get it.

If you have a large room, go for it. I thought long and hard about adding a PS 3000 HV to my PA 3100 HV. I still do. But my room is relatively small (13’ by 20’ by 8’). Not done any yet. I hear has a lot to do with room size and bandwidth. The money outlay for me it’s too high to risk experimenting

I guess Roon just pushed a new update, Build 918. Anyone download it to see if it's better (or worse) than 913? No mention of SQ improvement in build notes.

After the epic failure on the landing gear of build 913 (what a sonic plane crash ) I’m not sure I just want to be hopping on to 918 without strapping on a parachute first. I thought how could it be worse… but then again

Might just wait till reports that flight 918 has landed safely first

Been there. Done that. Never again!!
But 913 is way in the rear view mirror. It's 3 iterations later and 931 now. They probably did it just to piss us off.o_O
