Has anyone heard the Devialet D-Premier Integrated Amp/DAC

I didn't have any dropouts after upgrading to 6.0.7 and rebooting the Devialet afterwards. But I must say I didn't listen for more that 2 hours for now.
But even if you still have a dropout after several hours does not mean that AIR is not good enough, it only means that there is still some bug that can be fixed.
AIR 2.1 is by far the best source I ever had, much better than an Audiophilleo USB converter with separate PS. For this fact I can live with a dropout every 4 hours...which still has to happen for me...

Agree on the soundquality :) with itunes on imac its great, best so far ,when i switch back to logitech transporter connected via chord digicabel its a step down,

The old 'bits are bits' and it should not make a difference statement. Unfortunately what goes on at the computer side does make a difference and this also applies to packet streaming (Wifi or Ethernet)....

Daz - I was not making a statement, only raising a question to marting.

However, if "what goes on at the computer side does make a difference", as you say, then chances are it is NOT 'bit perfect', by its very definition - apart from the timing of the data stream which gets torn apart anyway by package streaming / asynchronous transfer.

The other thing which could make a difference is what goes on within the Devialet - and its ability to reassemble a "jitter free" data flow from different sources, to be fed into the DAC.

However, also passing over to Eric, I made a comparison with optimum settings in both cases. Bit perfect mode in the iTunes/MAC case and WASAPI in the JRiver/Win8 case.
.
Thanks marting, that was my question ;)

I also do not have Windows PC properly set up so I won't be able to try anytime soon.
However like IanG-UK I would welcome a bit more clarity from Devialet, as to how the different combinations of players and computers interface with the Devialet, and what really is happening on bit level to the data streams.

yes, sure. If it is a bug then Devialet has to fix it. But so far it has not happened for me, so currently I'm very relaxed...

Hello
I confirm again that I have a lot of drop out with 24/192 files using Air2 and Itunes, Bit Perfect Mode. My router sits next to my Devialet so this is not the issue and the signal is very strong.
Are they other people with the same issues ?

Thanks

No, it works in my configuration.
But you have not only to check the signal between router and Devialet but also between router and computer.
Best to use wired connection between router and computer, because otherwise you loose bandwidth on WLAN. I use it this way using a Mac Mini and AirportExpress. What router are you using?

My dealer called me yesterday. They have a lot of problems with the new Devialets and the software using iTunes (on Windows when I remember right). Installing was OK, but no stable connection and drop outs. Told me that they have reported about 5 or 6 points of annoyance to Devialet the last days. The dealer said he will not deliver one of them until the problems are not fixed. I cannot exclude that it is a problem of the network itself, cause I was not there.

Signal between Devialet and Airport Extreme is -48 dbM. Everything else is connected by Lan cable so only Ethernet connection. The music is located on a NAS but I doubt this is the reason.
This is only happening with 192/24 files
Thanks for your idea and help

Any subscribers to HiFi News reading this thread? July issue has a review of the 170. Would be interesting to know the main points and any views comparing it to the D-Premier.

Devialet 170 The EISA Award-winning French company ups the ante with three new amps boasting network and USB functionality. We take a listen...

Yesterday I had a nice and long listening evening. Without any connection loss. I think I listened to all kind of solutions (44.1, 96 and 192kHz) for round about 4 hours. But what I could experience after some hours was a slight cracking here and then. Similar to older vinyl records. :)
For me this means, the major dropout bug is primarily fixed. But it also means, that there still is some optimisation possible.

The thing about Bit Perfect Mode and Bit Perfect Mode to my experience is, that this is a kind of theoretical discussion. If there is a REAL Bit Perfect Mode without the influence of any player, I ask myself why there are differences to listen. If you take e.g. Foobar, Jplay or JRiver, you can examine different reproduction quality. At least I could examine them. For me this means, there HAS TO BE some difference. But I don't know where and why. I just know, that I can hear it. In addition I am of the opinion, that the topic of HTPC configuration still is pretty new and there is a lot to examine (in future). PC hardware never has been built in terms of best audiophile reproduction. That never was the primarily aim. Thus there probably is a lot to optimize. E.g. take the SOtM USB card. Why does it sound better than the integrated USB ports of the mainboard? And believe me, it sounds better!
Also I have audiophile friends that swear on WAV files in favour to FLAC or Apple Lossless files. Actually, I wasn't able to hear any difference with my HTPC configuration. For me that means, there HAS TO BE an influence by what ever... but not in terms of my configuration.
I have to repeat my central opinion: If somebody examines a difference you are not able to reproduce, this does not mean there is no difference! ;)

I just saw by accident that there is a new firmware out. Version 6.0.8 was released today.
Is there any early experience about this firmware?
Does anybody know what it does?

Just updated with 6.0.8. With 6.0.7, I was having connection issues from powering up. Couldn't find the network even though the router is on the shelf above with a green light aglow. Sometimes it would take 7-8 times of powering up and then back down before it would connect. After uploading .8, found it right away without any delay whatsoever. Was definitely quicker. Lets hope .8 addressed the connection instabilities people were experiencing. Same sonic wise as before which is good. Too early to report on any dropout or scratching issues.

Odd that Devialet does not state what the update corrects. Even arrogant Apple details the purpose of updates.

Also strange that one must press the 6.0.7 tab on the first download page to be directed to the 6.0.8 download. As if one must find it serendipitously, not logically.

Devialet releases another Byzantine fog.

Still a big deficiency in communication all over. Kind of a flat learning curve so far - unfortunately.
