Shostakovich 8th by Bernard Haitink on Decca available low price digital mastering.

Both Tima and I have uploaded it before many times

Post in thread 'Ron’s New System'

Here, for example: https://open.qobuz.com/track/4128099

Or here with some compression:

As I said, it is always interesting to listen to a track with even a basic headphone. You can see how the Bionor video, for example, is so completely off - it is a massacre, but that does not prevent some from enjoying the system.

This is another special piece. Live AA recording of Haitink’s last conducting. All involved signed the last side of the vinyl.
This one is VDH.
(Tim, I included video of the system as per request:)

And live Bruckner 7 - for those who think on videos all of them should sound digital

Thanks. Yes on Shostakovich 8 the bass and punch with VDH, as well as the dynamic range, is better. On Beethoven trio the zyx is better.
Exactly:)

This is off ‘orchestral’ topic but here are two renditions of a track with vocals for comparing the cartridges. Audio is worth a thousand words..:)

Looks like messages got fused a bit.
Much beauty in all, but the last live recording is my favorite
Well it’s live at a hall that has my favourite acoustics. It was built in the 1600s. Shame that after pandemic the orchestra there lost some regulars and they don’t perform as consistently, but the Bruckner was wonderful

‘Forward!
Victory is near!’
This recording is also available on FFRR moniker.

Since there is Shostakovich talk, here's some more on Symphony 8.
The Battle for Stalingrad.

Shostakovich Sym 8 Previn UEMI_ASD2917.jpg

For Shostakovich's 8th also try the 1973 EMI ASD 2917 (analog) from Andre Previn and the London Symphony Orchestra. Part of this recording was used in the soundtrack for the movie Rollerball.

After the lengthy 1st, here is the short Allegretto 2nd Movement -- it sets the stage for the portentous 3rd Movement.

Here is what I wrote about this performance in one of my pre-JBL reviews:

"The battle for Stalingrad rages in 1943 -- you gnaw on a rat bone while a sponge soaked in the astringency of despair sucks hope from your soul. In the first movement, upper strings scream at a desperate pitch as low basses roll in like black fog from the back-right corner, building to a cacophony of bass, brass and tympanic thunder. I sat transfixed at the entire orchestra laid out in layers before me, playing their parts by row and section, each clear and distinct. ... Most remarkable in this complex performance was the way simultaneous lines and phrases from each instrumental group maintained the integrity of their assigned tempos and loudness, resulting in a phenomenal sense of both texture and coherence with plenty of inner orchestral detail. This piece finally made sense to me, and I marveled at Previn's interpretation."

Today I appreciate this symphony even more. It is superb.

And here is that 3rd Movement that @bonzo75 mentioned -- this would be with the Fuuga on the 4-Point.

What all these videos demonstrate (including my own, of course) is that symphonic music cannot be reproduced correctly with home stereos. Phone recordings just degrade the sound even further and all these videos, without exception, sound pretty bad - Perhaps its a matter of going from bad to worse?

Hello,

Just curious how you like the TW Acustic table vs your Micro Seiki?
Would you be willing to share a few thoughts as to how they compare?

Thanks much!

Best wishes,
Don
