HI guys

I am interested in the engineering minded speculations

I am intrigued by the Wadia series 9 as it was an all out digital exercise 8 1704s super hi res (26 bit at 2.8Mhz), analog output NFB etc etc

Unfortunately just when the crowning glory with DSD and hires capability was to be added input wise they changed tack and produced
the 971i player

CD only :(

I have found literature the 931 and 922 were dsd and hires ready as was capable of 26 bits at 2.8Mhz

Also I found one manual download with 192Khz on input display

So was wondering could you add the

Amanereo usb board capable of dsd and hires pcm

Thx for input

1704 DACs max out at 768kHz. They are not able to accept native DSD stream, unless you convert DSD to PCM prior conversion (which, equally well, can be done in a computer).

Thanks for feedback

I am aware of 1704 capability as per max freq

Though am aware of DACs using 1704 as doing DSD… though the implementation of these I don't know

The CH D1 precision comes to mind with 4x PCM1704, the Wadia 9 has 8 PCM1704

I will leave others to explain… as not my expertise….but are you suggesting Ch precision isn't doing pwm but pcm ? as a logical conclusion from your assertion

They must convert DSD to PCM.

Interesting

I have no vested interest in whether its DSM or PCM as long as sounds good

I know Soulution made it clear they were converting SACD to PCM
CH precision not so clear, but from what your saying if your using 1704 you must be

Wadia well they never implemented…..

As I said - nothing really to worry about. You can do the same in a computer (provided you use computer to play music, not some server like Aurender in the first place). The computer has more computing power and can use more advanced algoritms than some on-the-chip upsampler, which means this conversion may be in fact better sounding.

Yes I use computer a lot
And could not agree more that computer conversion a lot cheaper than some Hifi solutions

My recent experiments have been in what way of delivering files sounds best
Dsf aiff and flac

CH accepts DSD "natively", but does convert to PCM for playback. I suggested to them to use their modular design to devlop a low pass filtration module for the native DSD signal they already receive. This could be a future optional module for the C1.
