I miss it as well. There was a huge Blockbuster across the street from me that finally closed it's doors last year, and I honestly can't think of another video store of any kind anywhere close to where I am. Much like Record Shops, these places were great to browse through and find movies you'd never otherwise be exposed to. I'd pick up a movie or two, some Reese's Pieces, a bag of popcorn and back home I went to enjoy a great evening.

While the convenience factor of a Netflix and the like can't be beat, it's unfortunate that people have placed more emphasis on that as opposed to enjoying the wonderful social environment with people of like-minded interests. It's a step forward, but perhaps with 2 steps back.

My first start-up was "Video Express" in 1987, a home delivery video service. It was a little early for the Internet and Pre- DVD. We had hard media marketing campaigns by geo region. This was a strain on cash flow and we never got past the two year start-up hurdle. The model was franchising territories for home or mail delivery. It was Netflix before Netflix.

Good times and bad times.

Now I go to my local public library to rent for free the DVD's and Blu-Rays.

The walk does me good, and maybe while I'm down there I'll pick up lunch, go to the cigar store or get a haircut.
