Ked, because he has top belt drives, and soon the greatest of all, arguably the greatest idler of all.
There aren’t any absolutes in the DD world other than the original SP10 mk3 is right up there, and arguably this SP10R should be even better.
So Tang, three stellar belt drives, stellar idler drive.
Surely now stellar DD.
Unless of course Ked you’re volunteering to step up to the plate.

Yeah now he needs a DD to be the complete man. Think he will look at Monaco 2, or this next

I think until this turntable is compared directly with other direct drives we are over-reacting. I hope they broke the code, but we are not there yet.

Mike, no one is saying this new tt is better than anything else, or even the best DD.
But we are talking about a company that are proud of the heritage of this tt, are apparently providing continuity, and unlike any other audiophile company, are able to absolutely provide a vastly superior level of engineering and process by dint of their almost unlimited resources and financial involvement.
This immediately suggests to me the result is bound to be stellar.
How stellar?...

Not sure how Fremer arrives at his best measuring TT conclusion based on his iPhone app lol. The data there are great but exceeded by the SME as measured by Hifi news. That said I do expect it to measure very well in w&f terms when (if) hifi news measure it properly! I don’t expect it to measure well on rumble though. Let’s see.

The SME and TechDAS are about the same and perhaps the best that HiFi News has ever measured.

No love for the VPI DD? Kodo "The Beat" is also excellent.

Kodo is currently my dream TT based on online research (not hearing). After hearing whether it reinforces that or changes it I don't know.

You may get lucky Ked, based on fact I believe it’s discontinued (replacement is the XX, at roughly half the price).
There was one available used recently for £10-15k.
You should bear in mind the design is loaded with Stillpoints Ultra 5s, I don’t believe there’s an option to remove these and replace w Mooks LOL.

I have a DP-80 too, still yet to re build it into a plinth and in no hurry but I admire Peters work very much. Not sure what to make of Fremer's preview but i would like to see how this sounds compared to the late 70's unit's that never made the big Japanese brands any money in fact they were all loss leaders such was the technology inside them. Take for instance the Sony PSB-80 or the Bio-tracers, how much really would it cost to buy that kind of technology these days??

Comment from VPI on the Fremer thread stating that the VPI direct measured better than this sp10r in the review by Fremer with same app.

I believe the GPA drew a lot of flack on forums some years back with their much vaunted claims on class leading speed accuracy re the Monaco 1.5.
