Does anyone have experience with the TD-2002 and TD-4003?

Can anyone suggest why you would take a TD-2002 over a TD-4003? I would like to include one in my new two-way build covering everything north of 800hz.

It depends on several things. From the outset there is a difference between how Large vs Small format drivers sound. Critical to that is where your crossover point is to the woofer and just as important what type of horn/waveguide will you be using. Chances are you may need a tweeter to help out the 4003 but not 2002.

It's a bunch of trade offs that you won't really know until you do some basic measurements with the actual compression driver and horns you will be using.

You have to look at on axis and the power response as examples. Are you going to go CD where you match directivity at the crossover or go exponential where even if you do the power response rolls off because of the differences between how the on axis response in EQ'd.

Ask @christensenleif@msn.com

My guess is 2002 is better for the highs, to come down to 800 hz you are better off with 4003. And 2001 is also good lower.

I intend on using the TL-1601b driver crossed at around 800hz. The horn is Joseph Crowe's improved Altec 15 cell (https://www.pinterest.ch/pin/636696466074862086/).

Perhaps I will ask the dealer instead if I can leave a bond/deposit and trial a few drivers ahead of settling on a pair. I know they have some used models which they may be fine with loaning out for some testing.

Ok you are going old school. I would just follow the Altec guidelines and if you can borrow for trials it would be a good idea. You are going to need a throat adapter to switch drivers. Have Fun!

@blaze182

not sure if this is relevant still, but I´ve had both in JMLC 270 and 2500 full rollback bandpassed at 6K
now I run 4003 from 600 to 20K in custom CD horn and don´t miss tweeter
shelved it measures flat to 20K in 85x 45 degrees dispersion
