Right now, I am listening to a marvelous performance of the Sonata for Unaccompanied Cello Op. 8- it is an older reissue on Saga (and reprocessed stereo to boot, ugh), but the performance is stunning, and the recording itself is fairly good (although I'm not sure when it was actually recorded- so any info on that would we welcomed too).
I gather the Period records mono copy is the one to have, based on another posting here, but it is a little pricey, given its collector status. Any great Starker-Kodaly recommendations on vinyl that are relatively obtainable, pricewise?
I have both an old mono Mercury of Starker- Dvorak and the stereo reissue (on Speakers Corner, which I haven't listened to yet). But, good Starker records are what I want- the simpler the better. So, I invite your suggestions, please.

There two others on Mercury

Mercury 432756 Janos Starker- J.S. BachSix Suites; Sonatas In G & D
Mercury Living Presence-Cello Concertos of Schumann, Lalo, Saint-Saens-Janos Starker - Dorati Conducting

However if you are simply a cello fan ... We can push the discussion further :)

Yes, of course, I'd love your thoughts, I have many of the Jacquelyn Du Pre on EMI. It is such an expressive instrument and the tone and weight of it so lovely.
