I just don't think it was important to show them carrying their own luggage in Tangier. Nonetheless, trivial as you say. My rating was lower the first time, but higher after seeing it again. Great story.

I remember reading every one of Fleming's Bond novels one summer in premed back in the 60's in the order in which they were written. They were tough to put down. Also of note was due to the popularity of the Bond novels and movies, television tried to recreate something similar but with tongue in cheek in The Man From U.N.C.L.E and to a lesser extent with I Spy

Yes, tough to put them down; I usually finished each one in two days. However, I've been reading the latest one,Trigger Mortis, and I've stopped midway for weeks now; but will eventually finish it.

I'm with Steve at 7.5. Not as good as Casino Royale (still the best Craig) nor Skyfall. Much better than Quantum however. It was a pretty dark film again, which I'm starting to tire of. I did like the numerous homages to older films- the helicopter scene, bond girl looked like Tatiana From Russia With Love (and the train scene was basically lifted from it), 'Odd Job" pt 2, etc. There wasn't as much action as a normal Bond film, which I actually enjoyed. The opening scene was terrific and the locale choices were excellent (Tanjiers, Austria, Rome)

SPOILER ALERT:
One of the sillier parts was believing that Blofeld turned evil (killing his father) because his dad gave more attention to Bond. I found that linkage entirely unnecessary and definitely not true to the series/books.

At least it looks like the producers should soon be breaking even; should help in making the next one

SPECTRE opened #1 at the box office around the world taking $200 million (including $73 million in the US) this weekend. The film has already taken $300 million in less than two weeks.

I read that it will need to gross $600M to break even. Have no idea if that is accurate, but it should do that easily. I can't believe the numbers for these blockbuster movies.

any thoughts on teh Sam Smith song? I thought it was awful. Adele was sooo much better.

The first time I saw it on youtube months ago I hated it; in the premiere, I was OK with it - the visual probably helped; in the IMAX theater it grew on me; though nowhere near Adelle's or Cornell's songs, so I wouldn't pay dime one for it.

Chris Cornell's song from 'Casino Royale' is the best of them all. ...Adele's song from 'Skyfall' second. ...In my expert 007 opinion.

Agreed.

A new line of British suits?

_________

* I was asked to go see it ('Spectre') last Friday night by a good friend (artist) with his wife (clothing business) and with another couple (a superior justice court judge and his wife, an ex-teacher); but I was not in the mood @ the time, and even less couple or so hours later.
I'll wait for the Blu-ray. ...Dommage though; it's not in 3D.

Daniel Craig is the "best" 007 Bond. ...Ever. ...And Monica ...

Rewatched Spectre this weekend off Amazon Prime - reduced my rating to a 7.0. I still don't like the exceedingly dark turn they have taken and the torture scene was over the top. Goldfinger never made you cringe. I would agree that Craig looked tired in the flick and needs to move on. The irony is that Waltz, Seydoux, Belluci etc. are rumored to be coming back for the "part 2" installment.

Probably the best part of the movie was the continued strength of M, Q, and Moneypenny - and Moriarty was good as well while he lasted :)

The worst part of the movie was Blofeld. Waltz wasn't allowed to really act and manipulating the audience for a fatherly rejection angle was pathetic. Said another way, he's spent 30 years trying to get revenge on Bond for his father? LOL. Almost as humorous was getting shot down in a helicopter by a few 9mm rounds.

At least the last scene was solid. I do wish Bellucci would have received more screen time!

I agree. The Blofeld character was indeed pathetic. Even the wardrobe was awful. Oh and as much as I love Waltz, he was more Green Hornet here than Inglorious Basterds or Django.

I agree that the torture scene was "weak".

* There's no news about the next James Bond film...late 2018. And nobody knows who's going to be agent 007.

My guess is that it will be Tim Hiddlestone who was superb in The Night Manager
