Friends - I own 5 vintage 1970s/1980s solid state receivers, and would like to know which to keep and which to sell/discard. Ideally, I'd keep 2 "users" (one for each system in house) and at least one back-up. Systems: downstairs = non-audiophile in-wall speakers (4 rooms); upstairs = gorgeous Canton bookshelves with Cambridge Soundworks subwoofer. Candidates: (1) Fisher CA880 amp with matching tuner; (2) Nikko NR-819; (3) Yamaha RX-V850 receiver (display light is out, but I only listen to one radio station); (4) Yamaha RX-570 (static in dials, couldn't totally fix using DeOxit, but only minor nuisance); (5) Yamaha R-5 receiver. It's a impossibly difficult choice due to many variables, including the "problems" (noted above) and space/size considerations, esp. with the Fisher. Maybe I should limit the question to which of the above is capable of producing the finest sound? Particularly with close-to-audiophile upstairs upstairs system, and component/speaker upgrades such as may happen in the coming years.
Thanks for your guidance,
Charles
