Music Software for a 7.1 System

Does anyone know if there is a media server music software that will playback 5.1 music files in 7.1? For example, some pre-pros will reproduce the rear channels for the 2 additional surround channels. I have an 8 channel DAC but Roon only plays 5.1 (unless I have something set incorrectly).

I think but do not know for certain that J River will do this. You set the number of output channels to 7 plus a subwoofer and then use JRSS to upmix and J River to do bass management.
