Gregadd attends CAF 2021

Our world class subway was operation at at a subpar level.. Trains were old and operating at 25 minite intervals. Bad timing. Attendance was lighter than usual. As was exhibitor attendance. It was no doubt influenced by covid. Vaccinea and mask restrictions were strictly enforced. I paid thirty dollars for three days.
Upon entry I proceeded directly to the VAC/ Von Schweikert room.
I returned Sat. and the VR 55 was making lovely sounds. Lots of cabl and at least to static exhibits.

Given that I am a headphone guy let's get right to it.
My Senheiser hD800s and were on display and paired together.
I must proclaim the Stax Sr009/ Blue Hawaiia courtesy of Headamp.com as the best sound of the show. Purist will remind me of the inherent limitations of headphones. That notwithstanding it just remains free of the usual colourationd of audiophile equipment. A pair will be in Christmas stocking. I am not sure which model.

Clearly it has become a matter of personal choice. That depends on individual applications of course.
At lease at the show, I felt no need to switch out. Either one was fine.

I spent a lot of time here. The exhibitor opined that TAD had declined in sound quality. He said this was his copy and five years old. Andy Youngs' (Oops !Andrew Jones)rep as design genius is safe.

I dunno. AFAIK, the TAD Reference/Evolution speakers were designed by Andrew Jones.
