Escape At Dannemora

With the entire world closed and everyone on lockdown, I am sure most of us have been listening to music and or looking for good video to stream. We heard of Escape at Dannemora at last year's awards where Patricia Arquette won the Best Actress Award for
1. Screen Actors' Guild
2. Critics Choice Awards
3. Golden Globe Awards
4.Directors' Guild of America

The series interestingly enough was directed by Ben Stiller and is a 7 part miniseries

I'm sure most of us remember this prison escape in 2015 where two inmates escaped with the help of a female correctional facility employee who was romantically involved with both men

Cast

Benicio del Toro as Richard Matt,[4] a convicted murderer
Patricia Arquette as Joyce "Tilly" Mitchell,[4] a married prison worker who becomes romantically entangled with both Matt and Sweat and aids in their escape
Paul Dano as David Sweat,[4] a convicted murderer
Bonnie Hunt as Catherine Leahy Scott, the New York State Inspector General heading up a formal investigation of the Matt/Sweat prison escape[5]
Eric Lange as Lyle Mitchell, Tilly's husband and maintenance worker at Clinton Correctional
David Morse as Gene Palmer, the inmate escort guard at Clinton Correctional

Principal production commenced in Upstate New York in the fall of 2017. For their roles, Patricia Arquette and Eric Lange each gained 40 pounds. Episode 6, the flashback episode, was filmed on 16 mm, unlike the rest of the series. Episode 6 was also the final episode filmed, so Arquette and Lange could lose the excess weight gained over the course of production. Director Ben Stiller decided to shut down production for a month and resume filming the episode once Arquette and Lange lost the weight. However, production was further delayed three weeks to accommodate the birth of Lange's son

I have to say that my wife and I enjoyed this series so much we binge watched it in 2 afternoons

It was excellent and Ben Stiller needs to be commended as I never thought he had it in him

All filming took place at the correctional facility and showed prison life at its worst

The scheme these 2 men concocted was simply amazing as to how they pulled off their escape route with hack saws and other equipment smuggled in by Tilly (Arquette)

Both men were on the loose for 21-25 days when Matt was shot and killed by border patrol agents when he refused to surrender and aimed a shot gun at officers. Sweat lasted another 4 days in the mountains before he was pursued by a county deputy sheriff and shot twice trying to escape. he recovered and returned to incarceration

Tilly was convicted for her complicity and was sentenced to 3-7 years in prison.

Response from Joyce Mitchell (Tilly)
In a December 2018 interview at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility, Joyce Mitchell criticized some events portrayed in the miniseries. She claimed, "I never had sex with them", referring to Richard Matt and David Sweat. She also criticized director Ben Stiller, calling him "a liar just like the rest of the world. He doesn't care about the truth. All he cares about is making millions off me. He's an idiot

Watching this series was so believable that it proved to me how great an actor Patricia Arquette is.

Iff you're looking for some good acting and great drama this one will get to you. Originally shown on Showtime. Each e[isode is about an hour although the last episode is 100minutes

definitely worth watching if you are at home like the rest of the world

Thank you for reminding me about this one, been meaning to watch it (along with many others) but I had forgotten about it. Danemora is the first prison I ever saw (from the outside of course). When I was a kid I'd be in the car as my mother drove by it and pointed it out - it made quite the impression on me.

When you watch the series which is filmed in the town it is literally a huge concrete wall all the way around the perimeter with houses on the other side of the street from the prison

If for no other reason, this series is worth watching because of how good Patricia Arquette's acting is. Plus, AFAIK all of the escape route that was constructed were the actual spots in the prison so you have a claustrophobic feeling throughout the escape route.

This series is really worth a look

For those who enjoyed this I found a follow up to the series which is a 73 minute documentary from the eyes of prison employees and their side of the escape. Worth a look...
