So David, what new artists do you prefer? Just curious.
Which genre Keith? I continuously buy a lot of new music in different categories , rock, jazz, classical, opera, new age, flamingo, instrumental, a little folk and world music. Of course I don’t like everything I purchase but a good 60-65% of it. But certainly not this Björk wanna be!

I know Bob, it’s actually a light entertaining thread :) which many seem to enjoy!
david

I wasn't trying anything in convincing but only in conveying; I surfed the internet, I stumbled on Elon (I keep track of my interests), I've read the latest, I posted it here in the video forum because Elon commented on it (that first video) for its visuals, I've searched some more after you commented briefly, I posted some more on what transcended originally, it was interesting and entertaining, and it was a good break from the finances, the pressure, the frustration that Elon is going through right now with his investors @ Tesla and the Wall Street analysts.

I put myself in his shoes and sometimes I would simply feel to bail out, to get out of it all.
Grimes is a mind connection, from a simple sense of humor. Elon discovered that Grimes used it three years prior and the rest is history in the making...this union, this thread, this story from online Internet, ....this is entertainment, and it comes in all flavors and colors. Life is fun living, and it is multi-universal.

Changes are good, creativity evolves, the mind expands, new connections are made, all that jazz.

What appears on the surface doesn't represent the depth of the matter, its simplicity.
Déjà vu ...

Why David, I never pegged you for the type of guy who digs the mating calls of long legged migratory birds. :D

Happens when you hang out with Chris at his place, he got over 200 acres dedicated to birds with sexy legs :)!

Ha! Bjork has had a much longer career than most anticipated. I'll give her that.

Rock, indie, pop genres, etc.

For years I've heard people talk about Grimes. And naturally my curiosity rose. But everytime I try to listen to it, I'm like... "omg why am doing this to myself". It's pretty repetitive for long songs... and the singing while matched with better instrumentals, still is an awful lot like 90's pop star sound... not so good. It rides on the merit of "good" ideas, and that's about it. It's pretty empty inside.

There's lots of newish music I dig. But it's pretty damn hard to recommend stuff to people you don't know the taste of at all, if it's remotely out there. For example I like BFF, bought their CDs after seeing them live. I think they're a blast, and their albums actually sound a million times better than the average young touring band.

I prefer St. Vincent myself, but yeah, Grimes is super popular with the indie pop crowd.

I would appreciate instead of members just crapping on modern music they would respond with alternatives they prefer.

Bjork I like, not all but a fair bunch of her albums. And her videos are colorful and creative. Her voice is tolerable.

Grimes I don't like the sound, the music, her voice, from not one single music video.
It's great to have great ideas but they have to be executed with greatness too.

For me, in my age group and experience. Making money is fine, where it's coming from is the essence.

St. Vincent is pretty good, New Pornographs have a good album... lots of good stuff out there.

I was thinking of you Gary; a man with good taste and not afraid to say it.
Elon needs to get to the next echelon when it comes to girlfriends.

I really do love these threads - they are hilarious. sort of like the two old guys on the Muppets bitching amongst themselves on how bad everything new is. But, then comes the love of really bad jazz musak by artist that can't write a song to save themselves and lame cover versions done by good looking chicks.

I have Grimes third album - Visions and its great - inventive and very good sound - and she writes, plays, arranges and produces her music - unlike the lite jazz musak favs. her latest stuff, yea not as good.

happy spinning :)

I knew you'd agree.

___

I sampled all songs of her third album; Visions.
...To check what can turn me on, me personally in the now. And honestly, not much.
Those two songs below are the closest to approaching that 'turn on' effect...by approximately 5%. This is a very rough estimate because I don't own that vinyl album and I didn't listen to it in its entirety.
It would take a great effort, plus an excellent analog setup; which I think you might have two great qualities. I respect that.

Me too I like those type of threads; they keep us in touch with today's music youth.
Grimes is not my type of new music today, but I still find fascinating to learn more about her and Elon Musk's connection. I discover stuff that I had no clue about, and it made me look beyond, like the videos I posted of Elise.
