When i read the Stereophile review of the Cipher and a few other reviews, they mentioned that they used the Blu Diamond Racing cones...Mk4 for detail, MK 3 for warmth.

I have trouble accepting that these cones can do all that. Has anyone had a real experience with them, do they work?

And I notice that they use only three of them, not four. Does that work well?

I'm quite happy with my Black Diamond Racing Cones. And yes, the 4s present more detail, whereas the 3s sacrifice a scootch of detail for warmth. I use mine, 4s underneath my C.A.T. SL-1 preamp's separate power supply. While 4 footers/isolation devices often perform better 3, 3 points always can define a plane, where 4 devices can be difficult to level/seat as any warp on the component or surface it sits on can leave that 4th device wobbling.

I also use various Stillpoints, as well as Synergistic MiGs and will try the Wave Kinetics A10-U8s.

The big advantage of the BD cones is that they're (comparatively) inexpensive. YMMV

Stillpoints Ultra's are the best in terms of passive isolation feet, imho.

No argument from me. But the BD cones are $20 each, the Ultra Mini Stillpoints $125 each and the Ultra 5 Stillpoints $700 each. That metric, 'value' is quite subjective. IMO, the BD cones are not the best, but offer substantial value.

No doubt, the ultra's are a hard pill to swallow price wise. It was a painful financial outlay, but I had to do it once I demoed them in my system.
