It sounds wonderful, but in my professional opinion, it sounds a lot better than it probably is.

Six seconds?? Not at all likely to perform a "real life" good job. I am extremely doubtful that their claim about dental floss being integrated with their brush actually works. No brush or cleaning apparatus is good for everyone so this isn't going to be a panacea.

I will speak to colleagues of mine who have tried one, but I am not likely to be impressed with it in actual use.

If the company feels they have something that really works effectively and they want to increase sales, they should give them to periodontists to see what they think about it.

I would like to see a scientific article in a peer reviewed journal evaluating the brush and comparing it to conventional cleaning methods.

edit: I will send a request to evaluate one.

I'd be interested in your professional opinion after you use it Gary

If effective that frees up 114 seconds twice daily for us to do with it whatever we want :)

I'm pretty sure the time it will take to clean that brush properly after using it will be greater than the time saved brushing AND cleaning a standard brush, maybe flossing too.

I'm slavishly devoted to my Sonicare, proven more accurate in AB/X testing. Oh and Gary....

I would like to see a scientific article in a peer reviewed journal evaluating the brush and comparing it to conventional cleaning methods.

...tread lightly, brother. That's dangerous territory. :)

Are you a dentist, Gary?

I am a dual trained specialist having done separate residencies in prosthodontics and periodontics.

6 SECONDS may clean one front surface of one easy access tooth.

15 minutes: air floss unit / sonicare with powder / rinse / string floss & 2X in some areas / rinse / air floss again.

Only a small percentage of professionals do the true quality work [just like audio]. Other than those, you are better staying out of the offices / operating rooms.

I bet GaryProtein is in the small percentage of true quality work, but he may not be as vocal as I am.

Sounds like it will be perfect for those that only have one tooth.

That 6 SECONDS may clean one front surface of one easy access tooth sounds right!

I requested information on the Blizzident brush, and after I get all the information from them and I send them casts and get my brush, I will post my evaluation of its performance and how long I think it really takes for it to do an effective job.

I have not used the AirFloss and I don't doubt that it works and in the studies it reduces gingivitis, but in the studies, most of which were by the manufacturer, they compared the effectiveness of its interproximal cleaning to using NOTHING interproximally, and does not compare it to other devices like various types of flosses or interproximal brushes.

Electric and manual brushes can both do an equally effective job when they are used properly. An electric used improperly won't do a good job either. The important thing to remember is YOU do the cleaning, not the brush.

Here's the important $.02:

I tell my patients to brush for FIVE minutes and I tell them to time it and go about it systematically. Have starting point and an ending point in the mouth. Concentrate on the gum line of the teeth and the gums. That's where 90% the plaque is. Don't do it haphazardly. Go around the mouth ONE time, concentrate on one or two teeth at a time and don't move to the next area until you are satisfied the one you just did is clean. Divide the time into segments of one minute for each of the following: upper inside, upper outside, lower inside, lower outside and 30 seconds for each upper and lower biting surfaces. This needs to be done thoroughly at least once a day to prevent gingivitis and cavities, twice is better and will certainly ensure better smelling breath. Interproximal cleaning with your choice of devices--floss, superfloss, proxabrushes, AirFloss or WaterFloss should be done at least once a day. If you run ragged in the morning and can't do a thorough job, do your best job at night. If you get home late and just fall into bed, do your best job in the morning. Excuses for both times of the day are not allowed. There is a slight advantage to doing the deluxe job at night because salivary flow decreases while sleeping which promotes the growth of bacterial plaque.

If you have had periodontal disease or significant experience with cavities/caries or tooth loss, you need to make sure you make a commitment to excellent home care because your history of disease demonstrates your susceptibility for recurrence.

It'll clean your teeth in six seconds, but it takes ten minutes to get it in.

There's an ultrasonic variant that comes with an extension cord and battery pack. It is also good for cleaning records by biting on them and rotating them in your mouth.

When I first read this Carl I thought you were suggesting it as a new type of record cleaner
