I did some mastering for a gentleman a few years ago...

There's also a bass solo on the Kenny G. Live Album..... it's the best part of the whole album

Jaco Pastorius - Jaco Pastorius gets my vote as number 1

I've always loved Stanley Clark for Jazz and Geddy Lee for Rock. For pop Mark King (Level 42) and Sting (The Police).

Jaco IMO however was in a league of his own wether solo, with Weather Report or guesting.

The early Yes albums all have excellent and punchy (Rickenbacker) electric bass.

Try in this order:

Yes Album
Close to the Edge
Fragile

These are all available as 24/96 or 24/192, and are actually pretty decent.

Jack, you got it right. Jaco's been THE electric bass player for me since I started listening to him back in the 70s.

If the OP is interested in the mastery of electric piccolo bass, Brian Bromberg is the guy (as opposed to stand up piccolo bass, for which we all have been blessed with the talents of Ron Carter).

Hey Bruce, I always think of Tisdale as the dominant power forward playing b-ball in Oklahoma. Tragic though what ensued.

Several of the Al Di Meola albums.

In that case the bassists would more than likely be Stanley Clarke (RTF and later collaborations) or Tony Jackson. :)

What, no votes for Randy Jackson? LOL.

Music by Level 42 (Mark King) :)
More seriously they did bring slap/pop bass guitar style to a much wider listening population, foundations of which I guess come from such as Stanley Clarke and even earlier Larry Graham.

So important in some ways, IMO anyway :)
Cheers
