Since Duke Ellington has been mentioned, I will vote for Ellington Uptown from 1955 (I think) which features one of the Duke's great bands, with Louis Bellson on drums and Paul Gansalves on tenor sax. The highlights for me are "Skin Deep" with Bellson playing a memorable drum solo with two bass drums, "Perdido" with full solos from the band, and a definitive "Take the A-Train" with a bop vocal by Betty Roche and a sensational tenor solo by Gansalves. I owned an original LP but lost it somewhere and now make do with a CD. However the LP is once again available and on my list.

Having owned (2) of these particular CDs and heard the other, I can safely say that they are trumped by the following:

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon (CD) - Japan CP35-3017 (EMI/Harvest non TO version)
Pink Floyd - The Wall - (CD) CDP 7 46036 8 (Harvest Black Face)
Pink Floyd - Wish You Where Here - (CD) Japan 35-DP4 (CBS/Sony 2 track version)

IMO the MOFI The Wall is smiley face eq'd and the Mastersound WYWH is a bit bright.

It will cost you a bit of coin to get them though

Hi...sorry...did not see your post til just now. Here it is. enjoy. imho, exceptional technique, very very cerebral and yet light and rhythmic in his playing which i think suits these particular works.

If you are at all curious to hear an exceptional recording quality, close-miked album by Dave Brubeck, (where the piano is up close and therefore very powerful, deep with strong, solid piano notes, you may wish to check this one out...

Yes the CD has a mono CD and a Stereo CD. I think you should be fine with the Download. Enjoy!

Yes, it's him, with video his technique is even more impressive.
Critics rank him on the same level as Horowitz and Pletnev.

I like this very much, and I greatly admire his relaxed and controlled technique. Bit too much pedal here for my taste, but as a sometime harpsichord player, I would say that...
